I use a water test - for Williams (Combe) and for other soaps too. If I drop a bit of lather into the water in the sink, it should float. If it disappears, it isn't really lather yet. Inadequate Williams foam will actually hiss as it dissolves.

Nice, I'd not heard of that method. I'll have to keep that in mind. Just a question--is the water hard or soft where you live?

About 50 ppm CaCO3 according to the last water report. That is on the high side, but still considered soft.
