Darn Tough socks are really good socks, but they have too much spandex, not enough merino for my taste. I prefer smartwool the most, REI brand has good merino, and I think I've had Costco's merino too. smartwool have lasted the longest of the other three. wigwam are ok for synthetics, but I don't like synthetics. I basically wear wool, year round.
a light polypro liner sock will also work wonders, as has also been mentioned.
and I've also found that taking care to keep the extremities warm lets the core sort itself out. there's nothing worse than cold feet, hands, and ears and no ability to fix it to make you miserable.
