July 2023 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Still In! 👍

30 July 2023 - Head Shave

Gillette Post War Ball End Tech (A1/1955)
Gillette Nacet (1st Use)
Semogue SOC Mistura
Wickham Soap Co. Classic 24
Floïd Mentolado Vigoroso

A lovely, smooth and close three pass head shave on two days growth. The fresh Nacet blade in the mild Gillette Tech is such a wonderful combination. Makes me think if I had to pick a fixed four, these should be two of them. Should being the word doing a bunch of heavy lifting there! ;) That's the head speaking, not the heart.

One more day and I'll be 1/1 on monthly GRUME! It's not been easy, as there's been some good sales recently. I feel for @Beto Salatini, as I nearly pulled the trigger on a Maggard order myself! I'm planning to sit out next month, but will still watch the thread. Planning for a yourshaving.com order and a trip to the semi-local Atlanta Barber and Beauty Supply. I'm going to beg for forgiveness versus ask for permission from the Chairwoman of the Finance Committee on that first part...wish me luck!😬

Thank you so much for the kind words and mention, my dear friend. I wish you a very happy end of the month and an August full of joy.
I hope to see your wonderful photos very soon!

Cheers!

Blade Biter
End of month, end of GRUME, but great start to a new week!

Chased the baby, and caught it!

Still in the GRUME and last shave of the month, 3 days of growth

July GRUME : 17
2023 GRUYERE : 118

Razor : Merkur 34 HD C
Blade : Gillette Silver Blue (0)
Pre Shave : none
Soap (SOTM) : Stirling Margaritas in the Artic
Brush : Proraso Boar
Aftershave: Osma Alum block, Stirling Margaritas in the Artic splash and then balm.

Last shave of the month and must likely last shave with the tipsy trio, the balm is going down.

A small nick on the upper lips, over than that great shave no irritation as usual with this balm. Now thinking of next month, the soap will be Arko and brush will be the two boars , but for the After Shave , well still thinking about it.

High Efficiency Summah/Gentlemanly Restraint

This afternoon’s luxuriously stupendous shave
RazoRock JAWS 0.84 40/100
Lord Super Stainless (6)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
Whipped Dog Butterscotch 30mm boar brush 14/100
Pre-shave: Warm shower
Lather: Wickham’s 1912, bowl-loaded/face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: face wash with shave binky
Post-shave: mentholated Equate moisturizer

Wasn’t able to replicate the wonder lotion of ultimate slickness this afternoon. With a fresh nub of soap, it’s quick, easy, and effective. On second use, the liquid looks the same while lacking a lot of the slickness. So to continue on this route, I have to no longer save the left over soapy water. I believe the hard water turned the previously slick awesome into pseudo-thick soap scum. Razor skipped a little. Aftershave stung a little.

Day 30, 96.8% complete

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Men Rock Black Pomegranate Shave Cream
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Wizamet SI #4
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea Balm

This cream makes a good lather, once you know how much water to use. Post-shave is better than the Nivea cream or Palmolive Stick, but not quite up to SV/MWF standard.

Notes to this shave:

Dodged a bullet yesterday. I was about to drop out for a Mühle Rocca when faith saved me in the final stretches. So another GRUME successfully completed! This month was harder for some reason than previous periods. Congrats to all who succeeded and congrats to those that stick around for 30/31!!

General - I think it has been a while since I shaved with the R41. Splendid shave to kickstart the week.

Enjoy your shave!

Still in, docked at Gibraltar now. Changed my Trac II cartridge yesterday, it was long overdue. What a great shave! Glad I threw in my travel bowl ( my shaving pinky). Three sinks on this trip, none of them had stoppers that work. Even if they did, the sinks were small tubs, too much wasted water required to shave! Here’s an old picture:

Sunday Evening shave
Razor: RazoRock Tech II
Blade: Silver Star (1)
Soap: New Homemade shave soap
Brush: RR Hive 24
Aftershave: Domain Shave Balm
Rating: 8/10, DFS
The last of my Silver Star blades. Very respectable shave. Little bit of irritation, but nothing to be concerned about. Pleasant.

Going to go ahead and call July for me, 30/31.

Highly unlikely I'll be purchasing anything shave related today.
Anxiously awaiting my Merkur adjustable additions; should be here tomorrow.

An improvement compared to last month's gentlemanly restraint.

I appreciate you all for not kicking me to the gutter and encouraging stick-with-it'ness to at least get 30/31.

Still out and the last shave of this month.

Today's Shave:
Razor: TGS Syntesi
Blade: Gillette Rubie Laser(3) These blades are so smooth and sharp.
Pre: TGS Dawn of Glory
Soap: Edwin Jagger Lime Pomegranate puck on the scuttle
Brush: My New Fine 20mm worked wonderfully.
After: Shower and moisturize with Supply Moisturizer.

Overall a DFS to end the month would give a 9.8/10.

Have some DFS!

Its MdC/Muhle Monday
Still in GRUME & GRUYERE
CONGRATS TO ALL JULY GRUME PARTICIPANTS!

MdC are EXCELLENT quality soaps. Nuff said.
Muhle brushes and the Feather DX are both excellent. Nuff said.
My skills using the straight razor are still improving to the point of DFS+ results.

Please take care of yourself and each other.

Still out but made it 30/31.

Last shave of the month, headshave today:

Gillette Rocket
Feather (5)
Yaqi Aqua High Mountain Badger
Proraso Blue
RR XXX Fresco

Congrats to all who made it and hope to see you all in the August thread.
Cheers :)

Last shave of the month: solid 10/10

Another month is gone, unbelieveble. Lately my GRUME are extremely easy as months pass so fast. Full month may not be enough time to place an order or even look for anything online 😁
Thank you for another month of support and see you in August.

Still In...and successful completion of my first GRUME! 👍

31 July 2023 - Face Shave - Menthol Monday

GEM 1912 - Made in England (from Peerless set)
GEM PTFE (7th Use)
Simpson Trafalgar T2
Stirling Soap Co Glacial Electric Sheep
Osage Rub

A moderately successful three pass face shave on two days growth. Perhaps the combination of a blade at or nearing the end of its life with a razor with an aluminum handle was not the best choice. Regardless, I pulled out a close shave with only a bit of irritation. Still debating whether to bin the blade or go for an eighth usage.

Yesterday I stated I would be sitting out the August GRUME in favor of picking up a few items. After sleeping on it, I decided this morning to continue GRUMEing and do my best to suppress my "wanna buy" thoughts.
