2012 London Olympics Thread

Yeah the US coverage from NBC is pretty pathetic but then again each broadcaster is biased towards its own country. For example the Canadian broadcasters will talk about the Winter games. For crying out loud I don't want to hear about that.

The IOC should have a universal broadcast at least in English. That's why I think this thread is good though as people from different countries can share inspirational stories and such of athletes who we might not hear about from our own broadcasters of the games.

Wish they'd got anyone but Macca for the last bit. I think they must have defrosted him specially for the event! He should just rest on his laurels and not try performing at something like that.

Enjoyed the very start of his bit where the backing track got messed up. A good friend of mine is a soundman who is working there. We have all blamed him for the cockup!

What on earth was that NHS bit about? That lost me!

Danny Boyle is a bit of a socialist, so I'm hoping it was stick in the eye for Cameroon and his corporate goons.

I've never been a Macca fan, and last night's cringefest just added to my dislike of him. With someone like that, their ego must be so huge that they can ignore all the evidence and still think they are 20 years old.

Watching the men's road race now via the interweb thingy, it's going to be an interesting finish. The breakaway is just far enough ahead to make Team GB nervous.

I will take advantage of any opportunity I can to watch football/soccer. I'm also interested to see how Michael Phelps performs.

Cycling fans...Alexandr Vinokurov of Kazakhstan won the Gold medal in the men's Road Race with Colombia's Rigoberto Uran claiming the Silver and Norway's Alexander Kristoff getting the Bronze.

It was a sad day for Team GB with Bradley Wiggins (2012 Tour de France winner), and the rest of Team GB were unable keep up to help Mark Cavendish (the world champion), into a a position to attack late on in the grueling 155 mile race as Vinokurov won the sprint over Rigoberto Uran (who was caught 'looking the wrong way), to the finish line for the Gold.

Not sure they defrosted his vocal cords enough...he sounded really off.

They have 1.3 billion people. At least a few of them have to be high quality athletes, right?

I agree with that but the thing is China is now strong at so many sports. It's not just one or two. They are dominating many sports similar to US.

Canada on the board with a bronze medal in women's 3M synchronize diving!

I live six miles from the Olympic park and I have to say they have done wonders. It looks absolutely fantastic and is a huge improvement over the neglected industrial wasteland that it replaced. I was that close I was able to see the Queens knickers as she jumped out the helicopter, and yes, before you ask they had the union flag on them.

I am not a big sports fan but I have really enjoyed watching the beach volleyball. I was looking through the planner and saw Women's 56kg snatch, I was so disappointed when I realised it was weightlifting.
