Rockwell 6s vs 6c

I recently purchased the 6c - amazing value - I like aggressive shaves - so using my other razors as a comparison plate 6 on the Rockwell gives me a very close shave - similar ATT S2 (my favourite), not as aggressive as Merkur future/progressive on setting 6. Base plate 1/2 very mild - plate 3 and you're in the shaving territory of Merkur 34c / DE89. What I do like is you can change the baseplate according to your prep - if I'm in a hurry I may use a 3 - going up to 6 depending on time I have /closeness I want.

I do very much agree with you here.

Plate 3 is pretty much DE89/34C territory, and plate 4 is a nice little bump up.

I'm beginning to think rather than the ubiquitous advice to a beginner to start with a DE89 or Merkur 34C, if they bump their budget from 35 to 50 USD they can have a Rockwell 6C. They can start very mild for a shave or three, then go to the middle ranges, and eventually try the more aggressive plates as they become experienced. Plus I think having different plates to play around with, would give a newbie a more interesting and enjoyable learning experience, and might keep them satisfied for a longer time before they get the RAD itch.

Pretty good advice.

I got a 6c and was so impressed with it I got a 6s too:

The 6s has much classier packaging and is obviously very well made.
My packaging says “Made in China” (like the 6c) but is this a misprint and the 6s is actually made in US?
At 120g it also feels great in the hand.

To be honest though the lighter 92g 6c feels better balanced and looks a lot prettier.
The 6s has a sturdy industrial appearance which is quite impressive in itself but it’s certainly not elegant.

And has anybody tried swapping the baseplates between the 6s and the 6c?
It sure looks kewl :)

Really if I had to choose only one it would be the 6c.
Fortunately I don’t have to choose so I can have the opulent deluxe 6s as well!

My sentiments exactly. The shave, to my face, is identical, but the 6C feels better in the hand and looks better to boot. I've had both, but when I got the 6C, the 6S went onto the sale block and the 6C into rotation.

Has anybody else noticed how long lasting the shaves are from the Rockwell?
Plate #6 feels a lot better behaved than my Shavecraft Tech and Spitfire R41 but the shave longevity seems the same i.e. I’m smart all day long.

The geometry on the Rockwells really does seem perfect.
Last night I tried plate #4 and used extensive blade buffing.
I’m even shaving ATG on the upper lip with this masterpiece!

Tomorrow I'm tempted to use the top late from my Merkur, the bottom plates from the 6s and my Falcon Handle.
I though the 6s was too heavy for me.
With my Falcon handle it becomes The M1A1/A2 Abrams main battle tank.
Wish I had a scale as I know it would break your toe if it feel on it.
It'll make a Bulldog whimper.
Still I'm going to give it a go.
I'll take a picture of my Franken Razor tomorrow.

Both and 6C also has two versions - white chrome and gunmetal. I am looking at the gunmetal now!!

I see that coupon code PERFECTSHAVE gives you 10% off, free shipping and a free 100 pack of Rockwell blades.

Is this the best promotion available? $45 grand total for the Rockwell 6C

Last month they had a 20% off promotion, so the 6C was only $40. That said, I recommend you buy it for $45. There might be a future 20% promotion, but it's worth $5 to have it now. I wasn't sure that I would like it, as I thought I preferred lighter razors, but I haven't been tempted to use anything else since I started using the 6C.

Which baseplates do you utilize?

I started with Plate 3 for a few shaves but soon moved to Plate 4. Maybe some day I'll try Plate 5, but for me #4 is a great choice for daily shaving. I have a tendency to develop irritation on my neck if I shave daily with a very aggressive razor, like my Fatip Zebrano. Plate 4 is as close as the Fatip without any irritation.
