Ozuku - 大突
For what it's worth, 突 is one of the kanji which your browser will conceivably attempt to render in Chinese (with five separate components) rather than Japanese (with two), if you don't tell it otherwise by adding Japanese as one of your browser languages.

This is rather by the by, since neither rendering is the same as the one on the stone, which I would imagine predates kanji simplification post WWII.

Bought this one, these are the seller picks. Was hoping this might be an Ark, what does the cognoscenti think is hiding under here? I will degrease and lap it when it gets here:

Someone I know inherited this stone from their grandfather, and I thought I'd post it here for some enlightenment. It's marked "Du-Plx Carbo Hone Co. 600 Gumbel DLDG. Kansas City, Missouri" and "Patent Pending". Clearly carborundum. It has grooves in it, so I presume it's a flattening stone, but could it be a hone in itself? I tried searching for the company online but couldn't find much.

Hard to tell. Glue side looks like probably washita, but not clean enough to be sure.

First two pics during/post lapping there's too much swarf left on the stone and they are too blurry. Picture next to the lapping block, kind of looks like a Tam in the bottom right corner, but again, can't be sure till you show it clean... wet would probably help make the markings more obvious too. You may need to wash it off and take another picture.

If I had to guess, I'd say Tam going off pic 05... but I'd also say Washita going off pic 06.

Very muddy lap. Not hard. 7 1/8x1 27/32x7/8. The saw marks that were there were thin and deep and even on the bottom where it was not dished.

Last night I grabbed my tub off sg to dump down my drain that was clogging and when I picked up the bucket there were 2 stones in it that I'd gotten for song, both pretty unidentifiable when I put them in 4+ months ago. One was a very burnished fine India. The other identical to my pike no.1, had spots fractured out of the bottom due to being pried out of the box just like the other(but the pike still had the stamped box). I count that a win I guess, because the good Lord knows I need another washita around here for some reason.

How do you go putting India stones in SG? The last couple I did had the oil stripped out of the middle, so when you go to use it the oil just soaks straight in and won't stay on the surface.

In the end I had to fill the stone with vaseline to keep the oil sitting on the surface.

washita

further cleaning for 6 hours in warm water with baking soda

thanks for your help

Put them in a bag with mineral oil and add more as needed, let them drink until they stop. Kinda like a turkey or Hindo.
