How to clamp a razor blade

Blade clamping is an increasingly debated topic in the wet shaving world. What's the best way to clamp a blade? Should all razors support a blade from the bottom? Does clamping even matter? In this video we cover the three main design approaches that allow safety razors to rigidly clamp a DE blade.

I'm so glad you mentioned that the main source of blade rigidity in the Blackbird is that the force is going into the plane of the blade. The blade is not going to bend in its own plane.

And does this mean you're making a slant razor??? ;)

Yes that's a really important nuance to understand. It doesn't really matter if the blade is flopping around in some other direction if you can control it in the plane that the shaving force is applied.

And... kind of! Not the point of this video though.

Making it a slant produced awkward proportions for the Blackbird. But honestly it’s been like six years so I don’t exactly remember.
Fair enough! But I get that all the parts have to be in harmony. I’m sure that “balance,” as you describe in your video, is a lot more than comparing weight of head and handle.
