I've seen five different types of Licence Palmer - two variations of the earlier all-brass ones and three variations of these later zamac ones. I'm such a fan that I now own four of them.

My best guess is that the brass ones, and at least one variation of the zamac date back to the 1930s, with the others produced in the immediate post-war period. I find all of the zamac ones to be better shavers than the brass one that I own. This particular variation might be the prettiest of them all and, with it set to a fairly high blade gap on #5, it works superbly for me.

Do you purposely keep the lid in its "aged" condition?

Otherwise, using some mild plastic-safe abrasive does wonders on these clear lids.
