What's new

LRod's Acquisition and everything else Thread!

I went with the ++. I've got enough aggression in my existing SE lineup
My first time around was with a Vestige ++.
I've mentioned it before, I had some issue where it just didn't work. Probably operator error, who knows!
And this time I got the + which works as advertised!
But since I already had the ++ (even though it didn't work), I decided to jump up to the +++ which should be a big change. From what I've read, the + and ++ are very similar. So I might as well go max!!

After six months and five days of waiting, my WR2 SS finally arrived today. But I noticed an issue with the polish on the top cap. Has anyone else experienced this with the basic polished?

Only the top of the cap has these noticeable flaws. The rest isn’t perfect, with some unavoidable machining marks from polishing, but it’s at least acceptable for me.View attachment 2025321View attachment 2025323View attachment 2025324View attachment 2025325
I've never had the polished but as Michael said, even the basic brushed and my matte bronze is better than that. Looks like that one slipped through QC. I'd send them those pictures and would have it replaced. Too expensive to accept!

I know that Larry felt the Vestige ++ was a bit rough - what did you think of it?
Remember that my first couple uses with my latest + Vestige was similar. But I sorted it out by adjusting the angle & pressure and where I hold the razor (it's super light). So most likely my first go around with the Vestige ++ was user error!
It works great now and if that wasn't the case I would have definitely never ordered the +++ plate.

I’m still undecided about aluminum. The only one I have is the Alpha Shave Dad and it isn’t that it’s too light but it’s almost as if it doesn’t feel dense enough. When a razor is very dense and weighty it feels like it aids clamping, although I recognize this could be an illusion or misperception.
I've had good shaves with aluminum razors, but they are generally lighter than I'm accustomed to.

My favorite aluminum razor (up to now) is the Guerrilla!
With the original handle (which is solid and not hollow), it's 43.5 grams which isn't bad for an aluminum razor.
It feels pretty stout!
The only problem is that it's a Wolfman which makes it pretty expensive for an aluminum razor. It's $123!

Tonight's shave was with the Tritok Concave aluminum with a Lab Blue blade and Haslinger Schafmilch shaving soap!
The razor is obviously light since it's aluminum but it shaves very similar to the stainless version. I'd say the stainless is smoother though because it's SS and because it's polished (and it of course has the weight advantage).
Most aluminum razors for me have some drag but none with this one which is a good thing.
The super flat head (with minimal blade bend) and the small gap I guess cancels that out.
Not much room for that drag effect to take place during a pass!
Angle is standard at around 30 degrees. This I believe is the optimal angle for shaving with this razor!
Blade feel is minimal!
The fit & finish is A+ as is with every other Focus product I have. They make nice stuff!!
It's light but balanced and it feels very controllable despite it's weight.
A no drama, smooth and efficient shave. One of those mildish, light blade feel razors that are surprisingly efficient!
Compared to anything else:
I can't since these Tritok's have a very unique geometry. The only thing that comes close is the Razorine Flatboy because of the flat head. But the Flatboy isn't very good (at least for me it wasn't).
The stainless Tritok version is superior though but of course it's like 3.5 times the cost of this one!
The stainless one is to leave home and this one would be excellent for traveling.

The Haslinger Schafmilch soap:
Meh, nothing to write home about!
I was excited to try it since I've read so many good things about it.
It smells great but that's about it. An average performer for me that makes me feel like I wasted $9.
It was a reminder (again) on why I stick to my usual soaps that work so well for me.
I've read so many rave reviews about this soap and that soap and never have I found anything
that I can say is spectacular. And quite a few have been these supposedly awesome artisan soaps.
I've got 2 Cyril R. Salter soaps that should be here on Monday and if they're not great (like everyone says they are),
I won't be buying any other new soaps. My go-to's are fantastic!
We'll see!!
