I can't get good lather from my stainless. A shave bowl shouldn't be smooth should it? Amazon reviewers love it.

The Timeless bowl is modest looking but it’s heavyweight plastic and works very well. I think Maggards has it in black if you prefer it to the blue.
It helps to have some texture, but it doesn't necessarily need to have big ribs. Timeless is nice, though it looks like something you might use in your workshop.
The Timeless bowl makes wonderful lather quickly and easily. Timeless now sells them in Blue, Red, White, or Gray. Or pickup a blue one in their scratch and dent section for only $5. Here's mine this morning.

I went from smooth stainless to Timeless. No doubt the Timeless will help. However, just dont get suckered into believing good lather should look like meringue.
A common dodge is to epoxy a few coins to the bottom of a smooth bowl. It actually does work.

It absolutely works better than a smooth bowl. The only bowl that I have found to be better is CaYuen
The Timeless bowl never worked well for me. I found the diameter was too narrow and the bowl was too deep!
I gave it a new job where it gets used as my brush soaking bowl. Works great for that!
The perfect bowl for me that has the perfect diameter & depth are the Captain's Choice pottery bowls.
I use one and bought two as spares (in case the one I use breaks) since it works so well.

I whipped up some original Foamy with the Lil Joe Yaqi brush in the stainless yesterday. It may get some air out and for sure smooths out the cream. Paint face with the brush and it's as if Foamy came in a tube.
The Timeless bowl is great, imo. And it's only $5 if you get it from the scratch and dent section of the Timeless website. Can't beat that.
I rigged up my shaving mug with 3 dimes and Gorilla glue . After 4-5 years and countless HOT water fillings the glue has never failed .
