Pen shop in Tokyo, Kinpendou -

Stumbled across this shop today on my lunch break. It's in an area called Jinbocho which is famous for having 100's of used and antique book shops.

They had some lovely looking pens and some jaw dropping prices!

Could be of interest to folks visiting Tokyo.

Thanks for the pics! Despite Japan having 3 superb "big" companies making pens, it is said that Western pens are very popular there and are viewed as superior (ironic since the Japanese companies started in response to Western nib sizes on pens like Waterman's and Parker being too broad for written kanji). I can't recognize anything in the first picture but the Delta, Waterman, and Pelikan LE's and M1000's in the bottom pics...

First Pic second shelf has some aurora, and third shelf I see more Pelikans... Thats kind of funny ita mostly Italian German and French pens lol. Great Picture John

Nice pics and story, thanks for sharing! I was wondering if you remember the prices on the Pelikan Toledos ... your pic cropped the Yen. They're a couple grand here.

i was kind of curious as to what their prices on Western pens were as well

Well, there's an Aurora for ¥63,000 or $533 with today's conversion. I'm not familiar enough with those modern pens to know the current price.

The prices were not too bad in my opinion.

Though I dont know a lot about fountain pen prices. I do know a lot about prices in Japan, usually "luxuary" or western things come with a bit of a premium. But I didn't think some of the more basic pens were too expensively priced.

My Lamy Safari for example was ¥3800, which is $32. It's kind of expensive but not really for Japanese standards.

The pens in the last photo were 180000 yen, which is about $1500 / €1300

They also had a few $10000+ pens in a display case behind the counter. But I didn't take a photo.

The pens in the last photo are Pelican M900, 910, 700.

In the second photo, coming from left to right, the first yellow pen on the top row is a Delta Dolcevita Papillon. It's ¥63000 or $532 /€460

Is that the same pen you are talking about James?
