ARKO!! is a lathering beast of soaps. You could do worse than to learn with ARKO!!
ARKO! is a wonderful soap indeed! I get/got mine from the local Turkish supermarket. Steep price increase since 2024. They used to be €.95 but today €1.29 - at that price and lathering qualities it is a total no brainer.
Combining Tabac and Arko into Tabarko may have resulted in my forever soap (I will admit that I have used a Tallowbac version). Well in 4 years time that is when I get through my other soaps too.

Welp, the roof leak was even worse today. Had to put out additional cups and had to move some furniture. Got the usual “we can’t do anything while it’s raining” crap again from the maintenance guy. Well, how about a bucket in the attic under the hole? I’d do it myself if it wasn’t locked. What a fun day.

And now my RR 400 brush is developing the same black spots my Maggard synthetic did. It’s not mildew, I don’t think. It doesn’t clean off. I rinse and towel dry my brushes after every use. They start on the outer edge of the knot before working inward, so that tells me mildew isn’t the cause.
Anyone have any idea what it could be? It’s starting to tick me off.

Thanks. The joy of renting. Houses cost too damn much here that I’m priced out. $389,000 for a 1400 sq ft one-story in need of remodeling. Fun times.
It could be soap scum. Do you have any citric acid?

Vinegar, but that doesn’t take the spots out, either. Would citric acid work differently?
They’d probably work similar, but citric acid would be less vinegar scented. I’d think it would loosen the black dots enough that they may be combed off, but I’ve never had it happen to my synth brushes.

The black dots look like stain in the fiber. Very weird.
That’s a weird one and it’s not nothing. How do you get that examined and it does it affect anything other than futzing with brushes?

I noticed it today while cleaning up my bathroom space. The brush works the same, but I really want to know what it is. Maybe it’s my hard water.
I assume it’s hard water, but I have that and my brushes aren’t discolored with scary spots.
Since moving to Florida, if my wife sees a black spot, she immediately thinks it's the dreaded "black mold" that plagues so many places down here... I'm guessing that isn't the problem.
That hasn't happened with any of my brushes so far. I used the same synthetic brush for over a year in Nashville where the water is pretty hard but I never saw any black spots on my brush.
