Hess razors are very good. I have several of their models and all are very nice shavers. The No.1 is simply a model designation. It is a carbon steel blade that will take a very keen edge. Have it honed and you will be very pleased.
BTW, Hess is about 2 miles from me. I bought out their remaining inventory that had been stashed away in their parts warehouse, forgotten. They do not have razors made for them anymore nor do they private label anything else. They only
sell Dovo's and various replaceable blade models.
