Razor: Fatip Open Comb Il Piccolo Nickel Original
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue New (1)
Brush: Zenith 502BC Se Bleached Boar
Preshave: PAA The Cube
Soap: Razorock XXX
Aftershave: Old Spice Original, Hawkins and Brimble

Well firstly thanks to @Alum Ladd for this event, it was very enjoyable to be apart of.

The New vs Old GSB, not alot of difference to me, really, honestly. This was my first time using the GSB in any open comb but looking at the razors I used previously (Stando Leszy, Black Beauty and Goodfellas Valynor) I would be able to tell right away if there was a discernible difference, I don't detect any.

I'd still favor the Old but that is because I like the wrapping but overall, its really close imho to me. I am sure because I like the Old I'll think hard about getting some more but we will see, I have alot of blades I like and plenty of the ones I do like but Old vs New it would be hard to tell if I didn't know ahead of time so to me I'd call it the same (or so close that it is), that is my take. I would need to shave more with them, use the same setup, etc. I know I won't do that but yea its so close I can safely say they are the same shaving wise.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, I really did. Now onto trying another blade I never had before in the near future.

Verdict:
I really understand why this blade is getting so much love in the community. It features a buttery smooth edge, that's really impressive. Unfortunately, I couldn't make this blade shine on my face when it came to the level of efficiency I'm after for in a blade. Today's shave made no difference. A solid shave, but I guess the results won't last as long as it is common for shaves with this pretty efficient razor. It just didn't do the trick for me. I decided against adding more touchups and extra buffing in order to avoid irritation. Thus I'll need a shave tomorrow in the morning again... and yeah, I'll use a sharper blade 😜

This experience is not a knock on the blade, it just doesn't make the cut for me and my face 😉

Thanks, Simon @Alum Ladd for hosting this event!

Have a nice weekend, Gents 😀👍
Curious what a couple other blades are you like better :) that you find sharper

I regularly use PermaSharp, Nacet, Gillette Wilkinson Sword (China), Wilkinson Sword (Germany), black and yellow Gillette 7'o clock blade... and Feather (up to 3 outings only).

Amongst these blades I enjoy PermaSharps, the black Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum and Nacets the most... I choose the blades depending on the razor being used.

Cheers!

GSB Week Finale

Thanks to Simon for starting this thread and thanks to our Dear Leader for sanctioning our gathering!

Another superb shave on the same edge as Friday, both nearly identical. This blade will go to four total no problem, probably five. Once again, these have the tone that I like to hear in my Blackbird, similar to ASPs that I have. I fetched my first higher end brush from home, it needs to get some use. After a few years at this, it is one of the brushes that I could never sell. The SV was a little dry and took several rounds with the hot water to revive it, still didn't give up as much lather as I wanted. It was enough, but could have been more.

Silvana Bluetata gentlemen!

Gillette Silver Blue I Love You!

Hello friends

This morning started very hot, it looks like the next few days will be inclement. This week’s SOTD theme is perfect: Mike’s Lime and Pinaud Citrus Musk! In honor of this great celebration that is DecemBOAR 2023 I used my Omega Jade which, after a long time at rest, spent the night soaking to return to action in perfect conditions. And finishing off the wonderful Gillette Silver Blue I Love You!, I say goodbye to the GSB (5) that I used this week. Thank you very much, @Alum Ladd for this sensational initiative and for hosting this event.

With us at this special moment, Johnny Hartman.

1937 Sheraton / GSB old package - Fantastic BBS. My package arrived just in time today with 200 old style GSBs from IB. I really can't tell a difference between the older and newer, both are smooth and great. Any difference between them would probably be imaginary and I wouldn't be able to tell in a blind test. I do like the blade wrapping much more and it seems less glue/wax so that makes them better to me. The only blade I'd put higher for me are Wizamets, but for the price they are now I'd stay with GSB. But I already have a giant stash of Wizamets from when they were much cheaper. Silver Blues are fantastic. Thanks @Alum Ladd and all participants.

For my final shave with the GSB tonight, let's visit an airy fairy wonderland where you could purchase class A drugs over the counter at Boots, Mr Baldwin was telling us over the wireless that the bomber would always get through, and when the Gold Standard was still a thing. Great Britain in the mid 1930's, where the Souplex razor reigned and briefly roared it's superiority.

It had to be the Souplex, my finest OC and probably my most gloriously effficient and joyful razor.

So I loaded up the GSB on trip number 4 and commenced a most wonderful shave.

My idea of a pre-shave is to thoroughly wash the face, rinse and keep wet using hottish water and drawing my hand against the grain of my stubble, which I have persuaded myself helps in some way. Auto-suggestion is a wonderful thing. I never shower before shaving, for as is well known, too much bathing weakens the constitution.

I have been using a most wonderful arisan soap from Tantra, a small batch soap made in Hampshire. Made with the finest ingredients, it is an unpretentious yet magnificient performer, with all the richness, slickness and glide one could desire. I take the smallish puck in my hand and lather straight from it. It creates a fantastic result. After thoroughly letting the puck dry I stash it in an old Sho-Ka-Kola tin.

Got an excellent lather applied using the great Wilko synthetic, and set to with the Souplex.

A most glorious, efficient and deeply satisfying 3 passer resulted, leaving my skin smooth, my whiskers removed and my soul raised. I mean that's one of the main parts of shaving right?

The Gillette Silver Blue has really come up trumps this week. After neglecting it a little, I returned to a blade which I had forgotten the wonderful qualities of. I had forgotten how smooth and forgiving it was, how it's sharpness was tempered with a wonderful glide, and it's longevity. After 4 shaves it is just getting into it's stride, and I aim to get 10 great shaves from it. Truly a blade that belongs to the ages.

I would like to thank all the Gentlemen who were kind enough to accompany me on this little journey over the last week, the kind words, the informative and often witty shave reports, and to the Blade Biter himself, the inestimable @lasta

Thank you all guys, it's been fun!

Extended Care Hospital Shave (2)
Razor:
Gillette Tech A4 Birth Quarter(1)
Blade: GSB(2)
Brush: Simpson PJ2
Soap: Mike's Lime
ASL: the "Veg"

This was my first shave with this razor. I think I must have taken a hundred passes, as this is probably one of the mildest razors I have. Coordination much improved over the last shave. I took my time. WTG, ATG, sideways and freestyle. Twenty to thirty minutes, I wasn't keeping track. It was enjoyable, with no worries of irritation even though I had to keep adjusting to get the poor thing actually cut whiskers. Definitely not the closest shave, but one of the most fun as my hands were actually going where I wanted them to go.
If you want to get a close shave with this razor, well, you better be prepared to do some work. It will reward you.

No Witch Hazel, as I forgot to ask my daughter to bring some in, so it was a blast, a splash, and a rub a dub dub of the "Veg", and there was no sting. ZERO. No Nivea either, as that is another item I forgot all about. No worries, my face feels great, the usual spots with flurries, still have flurries, the Tech did not reach. Or I did not stretch. I cannot remember the effects of Short-Term-Memory loss still very present in what is left of my mind. Of all the things I miss, I certainly miss my mind the most.

Most of my long term memories are still intact and vivid, so that is a good thing. I have not been able to Daydream yet, but I have slept like a baby the last two days here.

The staff at where I am staying is wonderful, they treat me like a King. The food is good. Coffee even better and they keep it coming. Snacks abound. I feel I'm in a 5 Star hotel.

Internet is fast, I have no complaints. I do want to go home, but this is the best place for me at this time. I'm told I can stay here for twenty days, and have an evaluation tomorrow. I plan on asking to stay awhile. The nut cases abound, I laugh. Troy says hi, and you can see China when you look in his eyes. One lady sees cats running down the hallways, tells me her husband had her committed, and well, she is very pleasant, his loss. Hector calls me Dino. I'm trying my best to make the best of my current situation and enjoy myself. I'm happy. I laugh, I sing in the shower. I have my acoustic guitar, a few of the guys on night shift play guitar also. What more can I ask? I can have a cigar, if I so desire, and have. It now seems to be one of the finer things in life to enjoy after one of the great meals they provide. Yes, I give the cook a Thank You note after every meal. And flowers from the Rose Garden outside. The lady that serves us food tells me I am sweet with a smile.
We have movies, popcorn, and Root-Beer Floats. Want to go to the Casino or play cards? You can check that box too.

Oh wait, I was talking about shaving, where did my mind go? Almost time for my daily workout, then lunch. Gotta go....

The chinese made Gillette Wilkinson Sword is a bit rough in the first shave, yet brutally sharp. Once it keenness starts to fade , shave 2+, it's a wonderful blade (sharp as a Feather but with a significantly extended longevity and smoothness compared to a Feather...). Don't mix them up with their indian sibbling. 😉

As per the green 7'o clock... Stainless Steel or PermaSharp? 😉
