Chubby 1 vs duke 3 - First Simpson

That hair looks Better than Best. Nice brush! That thing is gonna bloom out like crazy based on how full it looks dry. Cheers. 😉
Oh lord you just made my day happy. A large bloom is what I like the most when I see a badger brush!

Great to hear about the hair, I’m looking forward to using it soon.

Thank you all gentlemen for your input about the knot.

Sir, the word bloom is just not enough. After usage a Chubby develops a large mushroom-like knot that is simply spectacular to look at.:cuppa:

Sir, I’m sorry but I’m reporting your post as pornographic content.

When my Classic 1 in Best first arrived I was disappointed because the knot was so small. Once I soaked and lathered it up, it did not even look like the same brush any longer. Get ready for yours to become a whole different beast after you use it. 😉

Can’t wait! :ihih:

Bloom! First use today, beautiful brush. But now I understand why people say it can eat lather! 🤣

I had to reload with more Proraso for a second pass, but I’m sure I’ll get used to its nuances. Very different behavior when compared to a boar for sure.

Great face feel, like a wall of hair indeed. Amazing.

Give my lather back you chubby *@&*! 🤣🤣

Dukes Chubbies and Commodores are stuffed with lots of hair. If that turns out not to be your cup of tea, check out the 55, 56, or Classic 1. Plenty of hair, but a little more restrained.

Or just use more product and pay the extra toll, that’s all.

Nice brush. 😎

Don‘t get me wrong I loved it! It’s just a matter of getting used to it and adapting the lathering technique.

I can’t wait to use it again. Another great thing is that it feels scrubby without being pokey or scritchy.

Congratulations, Sir. You're now the proud owner of a legendary brush. :cuppa:

Gentlemen, follow up and a question for you badger freaks.

I’ve been using my chubby a lot. First days I felt some prickliness but it got considerably softer despite not breaking in like a boar. I bowl lathered for a while to give the face some rest.

I tried face lathering again and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable but when I’m done lathering it feels like my skin is a little “over exfoliated“, if you know what I mean.

There’s no brush burn, no redness, but I can feel it post lathering. It’s weird because I can feel the tips of my boars much more and there’s no post lathering sensitivity. The chubby tips feel a lot softer but somehow leaves my skin a little more tender. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Is this because of its density?

Do you think it could mellow out a bit more with more using?

Thank you once again!

I only have experience with best in brushes like the commodore, Berkeley and wee scot. All of my Chubby's are in Super, Manchurian, and 2 band silver tip. It could very well be the density. I am not sure how much it will change, as badger does not typically split like boar. You could always try a super and sell this one on the BST for likely what you paid for it. Personally, the only scratchy badgers I have are the Manchurians, and they do actually soften a bit after several uses.
