I took a leave of absence from law school and cross-trained into a short term comm officer to lead a guard unit in Iraq in 2005. My dad told me never to volunteer for stuff, but I wasn’t very good at listening to him.

Hello All!

Just found this forum and thought I'd give it a shot. Been proudly serving for 15 years. The shortest and longest 15 years of my life. I am still having a good time (most times) and probably going to keep going until I am over it.

United States Army
1990-2015
Started as a Private, ended as a Lieutenant Colonel
at the end I was a research and development officer (51Z)
I spent the last half of my career in the USSOCOM community
I did two tours of Iraq, two of Afghanistan, but I think my favorite assignment was Germany when I was younger

I spent just under 13 and a half years in the US Navy. Got out in 2007.

I was a Nuclear Electricians Mate/EM1 (I guess it’s EMN1 nowadays) which is an E-6.

My first command out of the nuclear power pipeline was the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), which was funny because I had requested a new construction carrier because my best friend was assigned to the Stennis at the time and wanted to go there. The detailer must have looked at my paperwork and said yup…going to the Enterprise which was the OLDEST carrier at the time.

After 5 years there I was a plankowner on the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) and spent 4 years there before going to MARMC (formerly known as SIMA) to finish out my time.
