What's new

Why is it that all great shaving creams/soaps I am not a big fan of their scent?

Try Cella - inexpensive, does a great job, very mild scent.

Almond is another scent I don't particularly enjoy. Plus I noticed that my skin doesn't do well with tallow based soaps. I get much better results from veggie soaps.

The scents I liked so far: T&H Grafton, TOBS Sensitive cream version, Palmolive stick (but this one is tallow). Not sure how I would classify these types of scents.

Have you seen basenotes.net? Their analysis of T&H Grafton might help:

Top Notes Citrus, Lemon, Galbanum
Middle Notes: Tarragon, Lavender
Base Notes: Incense

Basenotes doesn't have an analysis of the TOBS Sensitive, but you might try the Jermyn Street variant and see if you like that too.

Basenotes doesn't analyze Palmolive either, but reviews mostly describe it as smelling "clean" or "soapy". Maybe try an Arko stick?

Might I suggest the Edwin Jagger line of products? The Sea Buckthorn is a wonderful fruit based scent, their Sandalwood is well received and the Aloe should provide you with a nice clean scent. The English Shaving Company sells samples for about a $1.50 I think, and you'll get samples of their aftershave balms which I really enjoyed. They sell creams and soap that are both veggie based. They are extremely good products by the way. The sea buckthorn sees use at least once a week around my house, which says something.

I see - I misread your earlier comment about Palmolive, so I thought that one worked for you despite being tallow. Re-reading it, you meant that the scent is ok but you can't use it because it is tallow.

Good luck with the PS Green Tea. I've been shaving with it for the past couple of days, and it's a nice, subtle scent. I hope it's one that works for you.

I think the PS green tea soap + aftershave combo has arrived, but I can't open the box until Christmas, it's from Santa and she would get mad! But that will be my Christmas day shave, can't wait for it. I will report back what I think of it, both scent and quality of shave.

For the EJ line of products, what's considered better? The soap or the cream? For whatever reason Aloe sounds appealing to me.

Both are really good. I'm not really sure if I could call one better but they are slightly different. The soap is probably a better investment as far as how much use you'll get, but the cream was exceptional as well. Either would be a fine choice.
