Great shaves...with canned foam.

I've never had any complaints with canned goop. Seeing people dismiss it because they might have to add a bit of extra water is a bit funny; disdain for it because it doesn't require a specialized skill set to use isn't quite as humorous. To each his own, I suppose.

I used canned foam and gels for many years until I started DE shaving a little over a decade ago and started using various soaps. I continued to use gels when traveling, just for convenience.

On this most recent Christmas trip out of town, I bought a can of Barbasol and used that instead of a gel. Mixing it with water gave me an "okay" shave. However, my face started feeling greasy after a few days, no matter how well I washed it, and my skin started to react negatively. Maybe I needed to dilute the foam more. I also didn't use a brush--just applied with my hands straight from the can.

People set the bar wherever they wish and if canned foam is what your heart desires, who are we to contradict?

In my case, I enjoy the ritual with shaving brush, shaving soap and cream too much to contemplate switching to canned shaving products.

To each his own… 👍

I use it all the time and I have wonderful shaves with it.

Like you said, the secret is water. That’s it. Slick slick slick…

Foamy is more watery out of the can. Barbasol, Noxzema and Proraso need more water.
A good tip!
So, what are the favorites among this federation of foamy faced friends?

….Recently I was in shop selling hair-dresser / barber products and I was shocked by how little the staff know or even care, they didn't seem to bother, the lady didn't know where to find the products…

Funny you should mention this. A few years ago I went to such a place for some razor blades.

The first woman I talked to had no idea what I was talking about and asked another. They were kept out of sight in a drawer. The lady then pulled out a stack of blades with a rubber band tightly wound around them and asked how many I wanted. All they had were loose blades.

I used canned foam on and off over the last 35 years. I'd say, so far as I understood, I see only two concerns with canned foam: less environment friendly vs soap/cream, as those aerosols contain petroleum derived gazes, but I'm sure the amount used for a shave is tiny relative to other chemicals released in earth atmosphere by industries etc... ; also not very suitable for using a brush. When I mix foam + water into my lather, the foam first deflate to a lower volume, I have to build it back up with the brush, foam meant to be applied directly on skin I suppose.
