(Slaps link to thread) You Can Fit So Much Wrong In This Journal

I could be wrong, I don’t want to go back and reread that train wreck of a thread to check, but my impression was that was what he did. Everything after getting Blackland’s attention was other folks repeating suggestions that had already been tried, folks leaping to Blackland’s defense, and OP responding to some of those.

I just reread the thread and you are right - it looks like both OP and Blackland would have been happy to shut it down once they had established contact and were working to resolve things. It was other folks who were spinning it out, not them.

Criticism withdrawn. And if OP reads this, my apologies - I had it wrong.

Last night’s learned myself good shave
Henson AL13+
Sharp Titanium (1)
Damp facecloth aka “shave binky”
Boti Motherlode 30mm synthetic brush
Pre-shave: face wash with palm-lathered shave soap x 2
Lather: Canada Shaving Soap, palm-lathered
Aftershave: Olm Nom
Post-shave: lukewarm shower :001_wub: and a drop of hyaluronic acid and a drop of glycerin
Post-shave: Equate moisturizer

Tried a Sharp Titanium in my razor because Sharp Titanium and praises be to @Galibier_Numero_Un , it was a great combination for me. Thom didn’t recommend that specific blade, just finding the right one for a particular razor for a particular user.

And the learning was I applied deliberate pressure with the cap and got quickly reminded gossamer-like incidental pressure is what it likes much better. Reverted to that and the rest of my shave was comfortable and close and the only reason it was slow was because a skunk was routing through a nearby pile of leaves and I couldn’t shake the thought a neighbor was raking in the dead of night.

Did far too little physical activity last night.

I thought this new Elite line was a brand new type of fiber... not just the Evo V2 knots in classic handles.

Kim, I must apologize for my presumptuousness. The Elite series has the new Elite fiber and it’s colored to look like a two-band and not a three-band. I would need to find an unscrupulous team at the cloning factory to be more wrong. I had seen the pretty new Evo v2 brushes and my brain totally expunged all knowledge of the Elite series being separate. :(

@Goblin , I think soft brushes like Motherlode and Cashmere are gentler on the skin if brushed at an angle. I think the key to softness in most synthetic brushes is smaller fibers and that also makes them better at stabbing through skin. My experience with brush burn from very soft knots reduced when I started using them like pokey horsehair brushes.

Happy shaves, everyone!

Thom, I took a quick look after I saw the link to the Elite brushes on AliExpress... Or I should say, I tried to. There is no information there...... I didn't have much success finding solid information about the Elite fiber, though I didn't look long.

The bottom line... after I waited a few days, paid off my Ares.... as I said, the allure faded. There's always something that catches my eye. If I can avoid hitting the "proceed to checkout" button and let the dust settle, after a few days, I get a better sense if I really want the item in question.

I did use this month's shaving slush fund for two Timeless Ti Crown handles and one brass razor stand as I have the second one. This will complete my bronze, brass and gold plated family. My stainless steel and titanium hybrid family is pretty stable at the moment and I don't have any Vintage razors on my radar....

What the heck is this feeling? Contentment? That's something totally different for me. Will it last? Who knows? <eg>

@Phoenixkh , Omega sells through vendors like Maggards and the 19xx series came out after the Elite series (I saw newest and brain was happy with that…).

In my recent capers of building lather in my palm before smearing it into the whiskerscape, both my Simpson “best” badger and DS Cosmetics silvertip felt worlds different than any synthetic fiber or each other.

Content or not, you’re already using the heavy artillery and I suspect any synthetic short of a Wald or its Oumo equivalent (or the Arno equivalent to the Oumo equivalent to the Wald…) would be throwing money out the window to take an intentional step down from your current brush menagerie.

Also, Simpson badger brushes will shed unless pampered more than they pamper you and the rabid defenders of that brand are legion.

Never understood that one, it's like the Emperor's New Clothes. I get that the brand has a storied history, and I get that European labor costs are much higher than, say, East Asia, but if Yaqi can make a brush that doesn't shed for $30, why can't Simpson's do it for $300?

Sorry. Apparently all my hot takes are landing in your journal today, Thom.

Don't forget though that even very soft synths are plastic. I find I can still get brush burn from vigorously lathering a pillow-soft synth that I don't get from a pokier natural hair brush. The fibre material definitely makes a difference and softness isn't everything.

I guess it all depends on your skin. Apparently, I'm a delicate flower. 🌻
Yep, I'm just going through this now. My good boar was too much for face-lathering, the synthetic brush I had was very pokey. I've just got a better synthetic with backbone and soft tips. It's working out.

Yes, Sam, the hedonism and decadence returned to my post-shower shave. Before that, the razor lightly glided over my whiskers until they were gone. I think the high I’m chasing is leading me closer to the One and Done Club than I expected. Might Be paying attention to the eBay scene in Jordan sooner than expected. Great shave, though.

Did twenty-five slow motion pairs of sumō/shiko leg lifts twice yesterday along with just twenty-five pairs of slow motion on all fours leg lifts. Then crashed out and watched “Hoarders” with Wifey.

Wifey’s Birthday is today. We celebrated with Thai-inspired hotpot and will have cake and presents later. Doing my best to spoil her while doing what she asks. It’s tough. Hoping I’ll succeed. She deserves the best parts of the universe. Sadly, she’s stuck with me.

Happy shaves, everyone!
