September 2023 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

September GRUME...Still In!

PXL_20230901_194933390.jpg

Hey Guys
It is nice to see new (and not so new) participants in our midst.
IMHO, and I believe many others, this is my favorite thread on B&B.
Today I decided to use a neglected soap to celebrate a GRUME principle of enjoying what I already have.
I enjoyed a DFS+ outcome.
Please take care of yourself and each other.

Okay, that's enough discussion for me. Two rules need to be amended:

4. Any shaving-related services, like replating or restorations, cannot be arranged or paid for in the month of the restraint if they are not strictly necessary. Paying for honing service, so that your SR is usable, is acceptable.

5. You are encouraged to engage in trades (especially with each other), but don't enter any PIFs. Signing up for a product waitlist (without placing a deposit) is acceptable puts you out, and you may not bid on auctions for shaving gear in the GRUME month (though you may pay for your waitlist item or winning bid from a previous month without issue).

In this way, we're saying that intent - the commitment or attempt to buy - is what matters and the payment only has secondary importance. I'm guessing that some will use this as a loophole to skirt the spirit of GRUME, but I suppose that's where the "integrity" part comes in.

Let me know if something about the above feels off, incomplete, or not in keeping with what has been discussed.

When I placed the bid I didn't even check the end date till the next day. Then I realized I may have a problem because the end date was in September. Thanks for the clarification, I'll likely be outbid as there are two days left and just $5 till by max bid is surpassed. I do understand raising my max bid this month is a disqualification as I made the new bid this month. I will let the auction ride out with no further action on my part. Again sorry for any confusion or ruckus my questions have caused.

Thank you @FoolishMortal I like it! As per rule 4 I'm in!

I totally understand the integrity part. As for my brush modification, that transaction took place well before before joining September GRUME.

Still in (not that it's possible for me to be out yet, still being the 1st here)

Today's shave was a little bit of a reward for having gotten through August GRUME.
I'd saved my Castle Forbes cream sample and decided to use it for the first time today. It really is nice.
I paired that with my usual Super Speed and Trafalgar 2, with a Wilkinson Sword (2).
Pre and Post was my favorite Spanish Leather Skin Food.

Nothing crazy, no ATG on my neck, but from my jaw line up it was quite a good shave both for closeness and comfort. A 9 for both. My neck is not particularly close, but not bad and fairly comfy. I managed to give myself a weeper down there somehow, I didn't notice it until after applying Skin Food for my aftershave. Overall a very enjoyable shave and I'm glad that Castle Forbes didn't disappoint. It made very pretty and slippery lather with basically no effort. It assisted in getting a very good shave on my face without a half dozen passes. What's not to like.

Shave 2, still in. Yesterday's ebay visit was purely curiosity, not intent.

RFB, GSB (2), Proraso Pro, CRS Wild Rose, Gatsby.

Beautiful, beautiful shave! I've had a handful of zero aftershave sting BBSs in the past, while today was not one of them, it was 99% there!

Day 1, 3.3% complete

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Wizamet SI #5
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea Balm

A top-performing combination to start the month.

Shave 2 down, and it was a corker! The first warm, summery day for months and months, and the shave was marvellous: sunlight flooding the bathroom, the scent of desert vetiver and a crisp, comfortable edge... Bliss. Have great shaves, comrades! :)

Notes to this shave:

Summary - After yesterday’s smooth shave with the injector razor today was tuggy and harsh. No idea why, but it happened. So I didn’t go for the usual closeness and just went for acceptable.

Day 2
Had the McD's soap sitting for over a week now so thought it was a good Bay Rum theme morning.
I did end up using my Fine Stout, not the Klezo brush as pictured. It was a hand me down from my paternal Gpa, and it was having none of the soap this morning. Really needs a new knot, which of course will have to wait this month.

The Karve was sporting an Astra on it's first shave.
Very nice assortment for this morning. Very slick soap that resulted in a near BBS shave that was accomplished in two passes with nary a nick or weeper.
As with the other McD's soap I used recently, Badlands, had a hard time lathering. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and have tried about everything. It was like scraping peanut butter each pass, but with that said I do enjoy the scent of this soap very much.
