Rembrandt Blade 2 Shave 6

Shave 6 and I can tell the Rembrandt is tired. It lacked some of the creamy smoothness, and I had to do more cleanup to get to a DFS today. I think I'll call it at 6 instead of risking going further.

I know it's getting repetitive, but it's still working for me.

KAI blade #1 ~ Shave #3

20250207_135709.jpeg

With two effortless passes, I achieved a DFS+ result with ease today. No nicks, just a tiny weeper.

I'm not entirely sure if the KAI blade alresdy loses its initial sharpness or if it's just that the blade feel of the .58 Lupo was more pronounced than the Blackbird I shaved with yesterday.

Either way, there's only one way to find out....Onward!

Had a mostly enjoyable shave with the Rembrandt blade tonight. 5 shaves on this blade and I think that is one too many (coarse old and gray whiskers) - ATG pass was tugging a lot. But I managed a DFS. I went with B&M Muire Wood soap - it's been months since I lathered that up and I'm really liking the scent :)

Rembrandt blade 1, shave 2

A very fine shave again, seems I can go with this blade for a month since I only shave a small area. Will cut to the Kai and then come back to the Rembrandt.

Rembrandt edge 3 shave 3

Gillette NEW razor (LC, ball-end), Cyril R Salter Lavender hard soap, VIGshaving 24mm silvertip.

Aaaand once again there's a noticable change on the third shave. These blades do seem to behave consistently.

The drop-off was even more marked than usual, with tugging even on my cheeks - no way I'm pushing this edge for a fourth, although I'm unsure if the difference was the blade or the razor.

There may or may not have been weepers, I wasn't paying attention and jumped straight in the shower afterwards. There was none by the time I'd finished in there.

Blade: Kai Stainless (11)
Razor: Blackland Era SB #3
Brush: Rubberset 400-3
Soap: MWF

With buffing, the final result of today's shave was a simple DFS. Perhaps a slight drop-off in the closeness of the shave.

I figure I'll go for shave #12 on this blade, and then load the next Rembrandt.
I just need to decide which razor to use. Any suggestions?

There were no nicks, weepers (drama dots), or post-shave irritation.

KAI blade #1 ~ Shave 4

20250208_064541.jpeg

To my surprise, the decreasing sharpness of this KAI blade became clear when I shaved with the rather mild Black Handle Superspeed this morning.
This is a rather disappointing performance, at least considering I had shaved with a KAI blade that had a much higher blade count. But this blade was finished and started to cause skin irritation. 2 passes were enough... I therefore retired the blade after shave no. 4.
The first two shaves felt nice, but then... 🤷‍♂️

Onward!

Shave #5 - Kai Super Stainless

Not the most comfortable shave. I don't know whether the Kai is dulling or should I blame the cheapo Ming Shi razor I used? Results were DFS-level though. I will switch to edge B for next set of shaves. All the prior shaves with the Kai have been on one edge only, "A".

Rembrandt Blade 2 Shave 1

I pulled out my pre-war Tech for this shave. I bet 90% of my head shaves are done with either a Henson mild or Karve CB, but I wanted to try something different with the Rembrandt to see if that improved its performance at all.

When I opened the wrapped I noticed that this blade had a lot less corrosion/discoloration than the first one, so I took that as a good sign. I also gave it a quick palm stropping before popping it into the Tech. My expectations were pretty low, but holy moly I was wrong. It's still not the sharpest blade, but it did the job with no resistance, pulling, tugging, or anything like that at all. Just a straightforward comfortable head shave. My faith in the Rembrandt blades has been restored!

I loaded up my Gillette Super Adjustable on setting 4 with Rembrandt #3 for it's third shave. For my whiskers (old and grey-crunchy whiskers - like fish bones) the Rembrandt blades just are not as sharp as I like (but they seem a bit sharper than the Kai blades).

The Rembrandts are remarkably smooth and I really want to like them. I find that if I spend extra time with preshave and use my DIY preshave mix (super slick dead sea mud mixed with HA serum and castor oil) the blade has an easier time cutting my whiskers without tugging so much. Not sure if it is softening the whiskers or just lubricating so my strokes are faster (guessing it's the latter)

Lathered up some Grooming Dept. Tobacco Oud and what a terrific scent! Got a three pass DFS+ without any drama :)
