Razor: Oliworks Meteorite, mild
Blade: Treet Carbon Steel
Lather: Wet the Face Thomas Shelby
Brush: Simpson Captain 2 in best
Post: Thayers + Avon Wild Country
Same great shave with less blade feel.

As I've written before, I have the Blue Meteorite and it's most definitely on the top of my list.
When I bought it (the same week they came out), I opted for the medium base plate and it's the right one. But curiosity has now hit me with the other two plates because I do sometimes like mild & efficient and also aggressive razors.
Depends on the mood and growth!
I've just ordered the mild plate and the aggressive plate in order to try them all.
They're cheap enough to justify when comparing them to the cost of base plates from other manufacturers.
These razors are really good and I figure that the multiple base plates will cover all bases.
Looking forward to the experiment!

Fumbling about.

Since I had the adjustable before the M3teorite, I thought I knew which baseplate would be right for me. I thought probably the mild, but maybe the medium, and certainly not the aggressive.

I bought them all as the price was very much right with their opening bell deep discount. I think the extra plates were $10 each.

But curiosity has now hit me with the other two plates because I do sometimes like mild & efficient and also aggressive razors.

I have a range of likes on occasion, too.

Depends on the mood and growth!

And how adventurous and brave I am.

Ain't that the truth.

I've ended up with the mild baseplate for most shaves. It is the only one I'd put into my highest razor ranking category, the Daily Drivers. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with the aggressive baseplate.

I think you're going to enjoy the experiment.

Happy shaves,

Jim

I hope so!
I too started with the adjustable which is what led me to the conclusion that the medium was the right one. But I still should have bought the other two back when they were dirt cheap.
Interesting that you really enjoy the mild as that's the one that really piques my interest right now. More so than the aggressive!
But I'll try them all when they arrive and see where I land in terms of satisfaction!

I've discovered that I like the aggressive baseplate, too.

The adjustable is hard to beat though.

(If they make an adjustable with the same geometry and visible-without-glasses numbers I'll buy it, too.)

Happy shaves,

Jim

Funny you wrote this today, the Mild & Aggressive base plates I ordered are out for delivery today!
I ordered them 22 days ago!
I emailed Jorge about a week ago and he said they were delayed with Cerakoted parts.
Apparently they send them somewhere else to get painted and that other shop was taking long.

I shaved tonight with the Meteorite using the mild baseplate.
And I opted for a Treet Black Beauty blade.
Why the Black Beauty?
For one it's a blade that I actually like and as seen in @helicopter (Dan's) research project,
it's one of the least sharp blades. I wanted to test the mildest baseplate with a very mild blade.
The Black Beauty is tricky since it doesn't seem to work on every razor. But when you get a match,
you end up with a wonderful shave.
I'm happy to say that the Meteorite is an excellent match for the Black Beauty blade.
This baseplate is most definitely milder than the medium baseplate but efficiency is still good.
It's got a smaller gap but it's still got positive blade exposure which boosts it's efficiency.
If it were to be neutral exposure, I'd probably overlook it!
But it works well as is and it's perfect for a weekend shave where I don't seek max efficiency.
But I still like the medium baseplate better since it's got the extra boost that the mild baseplate doesn't
have. And it's still super smooth!
Still a wonderful irritation free, smooth and close shave!
Tomorrow I'll be trying out the aggressive base plate and will probably opt for something sharper like a Lab Blue blade!

Tonight I used the aggressive plate on the Meteorite! (Wizamet blade)
Really not much to say since I simply found it a tad more efficient and a bit less smooth than the
middle plate. This is what I was expecting due to the larger gap/exposure The post shave had no irritation
but I could feel a bit of sting that lasted like 10 minutes which indicated that it's more efficient.
I think I got this result since it's got barely no blade feel. It's tough to tell what it's doing and that can be problematic
on highly efficient razors. The mild & middle plates also have hardly any blade feel but they don't shave as deep.
No issues daily shaving with those two!
This is a plate that I wouldn't use daily, but it'd be perfect for multi day growth!
Conclusion:
The middle plate still remains the winner for me!
It's got the balance where it's more than enough for daily use and no worries of overshaving.
I'll be sticking with it whenever the Meteorite comes up in my rotation!
YMMV!

No NEWS on, The Adjustable OliWorks?

I don't see any mention of the adjustable (past, present, or future) on the OliWorks website.

What that means is beyond my pay grade.

(I'm glad I acquired the adjustable when doing so was possible. It is an excellent Daily Driver for me. If they eventually make one with the same geometry and much more visible numbers I'll buy it, too.)

Happy shaves,

Jim

Cream: Cella Rapid (18)
Razor: OliBlade—Classic Steel—Original
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (5)

A superb shave.

I don't think shaves get any better than this! I have three "grails" now:
  • OliBlade—Classic Steel—Original razor,
  • Cella Rapid cream/gel, and
  • (German) Wilkinson Sword blades (thank you for pointing me to these, @helicopter! :001_cool:).
I like variety in my aftershaves. I have lots of favorites but not a "grail" one.

On the OliBlade I usually play around with different (whole number) steps. Today I decided to try a half-step, the 4.5 that Jim (@Chan Eil Whiskers) seems to favor. Very nice, Jim. I think I'll stick with that (for the next few shaves at least).

All in all, one happy bunny here! :001_tt1:

This was a "deep Zen" shave (no concentration, just complete focus), plus (@Chan Eil Whiskers) Jim's magical 4.5 setting on the OliBlade. I've been at this DE shaving game for ten years now, and being an SWB (continual beginner) has really made my shaves better on an ongoing basis. I don't expect complete nirvana, but it's getting closer all the time. :w00t:
