I posted the below on the "OliWorks 3 Piece Adjustable" thread, but thought it would be worthwhile posting it here too:

A SURPRISE FOR ME!

When my order for the aggressive baseplate (aka tray) turned up, there were TWO baseplates in the package:
Baseplate-extra-B&B_2024-11-24.jpg

Assuming this was an error I emailed Jorge asking what I should do.

Jorge replied: "On purpose! Just a gift from us, and I wanted you to have the full set!"

I've had many excellent "customer service" experiences, but this just takes it to another level!
I have experienced the exact same great service from Oliworks. They are just a great company to work with. The best part of the relationship is that their products are absolutely superior.

Noble Otter has a scent Noir et Vanille. Loved the scent but disliked the soap, it just never really worked for me, this was one of the original formulations when Noble Otter first came out. Just bought the soap Russian Tea after seeing this post. Hopefully I'll like it just as much as the previous Noir Et Vanille, I know I love Ethos Soap
You will definitely get an oriental/Indian tea smell but there is no vanilla present. Instead, a warm and spicy orange scent supplements the tea fragrance. The orange is more dark and not fruity at all. It is an extremely relaxing and calming scent. I hope you like it.

I have been working with George Lucy at NiceKittyDesigns on Etsy to design a stand for my Oliworks M3teorite and Adjustable. The pictures below show you what we came up with.

The one on the left is an early test version. there are two trays for the plates not used, a holder for the razor itself and the slot in the back is for disposing of razor blades (there is a slot on the back side for emptying them). There is a cubby hole to hold a die to keep track of how many shaves are on the current blade. On the right you see it with my Rockwell 6s. Here we add a container for a straight razor. The stripes are copper and gold (I swap out the 6s with my copper Christopher Bradly and C,D,E plates). I used a paint pen to color the die dots copper and gold. The middle is the M3tieorite. In the back slot I have my OliWorks adjustable. OliWorks could not give us specific color code for their "dark cherry" but put us in contact with Cerakote who gave use an RGB code of 106,69,82. WIth that we were able to convert it to a hex code of converts to #6A4552 and then go to the FilamentColors.xyz site and use the hex code to find potential filiaments for the 3D printer. The one we settled on was Polar Filaments "Merlot" which is what you see in the picture.

George also created one of his other stands without all the extras. That is in the second picture.

Note - The OliWorks are wider than similar razors like the Rockwell. He has other colors in stock and has leftover Merlot. We did not get the RGB for the Oliworks Blue. The prototype was printed in a color we "eyeballed"" looking at the razor and screens - lesson learned, always get the RGB, CYMK, or HEX codes! Lastly, I happen to like the 3D printer lines but if you don't you can sand them off and then use MaaS or Flitz polishing paste to get a slick gloss look.

What was the price point of the adjustable? Am I allowed to ask what happened with it? Is it going to be rereleased? And those that have used both the adjustable and three piece, how does it compare to the new three piece?

1. The cerakote colored one which is the one I bought was $175 (minus whatever coupon discount they were giving then).
I think the silver one was around $20 less!
2. I believe they are making some adjustments to it and will eventually be released again
(no exact reason of why they're redesigning it).
3. No exact re-release date!
4. The Meteorite (to me) shaves exactly the same as the adjustable. (Same as the middle setting on the adjustable with the middle plate which is the one I have). The lower plate would be equal to the adjustables lower setting and the higher plate would be equal to the adjustables high setting.
YMMV!
Hope this helps!

Thanks. The main reason I asked is because I was looking at buying the three piece, but I've spoken to a couple of people that have tried both and they liked the adjustable better, and since I don't have an adjustable or have ever used one, I thought it would have been interesting to try that instead. I didn't know exactly what happened to the OliWorks adjustable and the status on it, so I thought I'd ask. Was it ever actually released fully, or was it a prototype that they had to make some adjustments to?

I'd also never heard of OliWorks until about 10 or so days ago when someone suggested I try their three piece.

So in your opinion, the M3teorite is very similar. What would the M3teorite settings correspond to on the adjustable? What was the max level/number on the adjustable?

For me they both feel identical!
It was fully released but taken off the market for some reason that nobody is really sure of.
I've only got the Meteorite with the "middle blade" so I can only compare that one.
It's basically like a 3 on the adjustable.
I'd go back to page 1 in this thread and read through it. You'll get a lot of information and probably all the answers to any other questions you may have.

Thanks. That sounds good if you found them similar. It seems to me that the guys I spoke to thought the adjustable shaved a bit better/smoother.

I will do that then on my next day off which is in a couple of days time. With an adjustable razor, do they require any maintenance at all?

Just clean and rinse as usual!
Some adjustables can be disassembled but as far as I can tell, this one isn't (unless I'm wrong!)
Maybe someone else can chime in on this!

I probably could have worded it better. I was sort of asking if adjustables (not the OliWorks one in particular, just any in general) have parts that can wear out if you don't do some kind of maintenance? I was thinking just rinse and clean, though. I was looking at the Blackland Adjustable with their BF deal on it, but didn't have time to do any reading about adjustables in general, so I left it be this time around.

Their replies on their facebook page said they’d have a redesigned adjustable out before year’s end… so it should be close if they can stay on schedule.

I’m really tempted by the sale on the three piece though.
The Meteorite is still being offered for $86 with the Black Friday price. That'll probably be over by tomorrow!
At that price it's more than worth it. And then you can consider the adjustable whenever it comes around!

Chan Eil Whiskers

Fumbling about.

I have the adjustable and like it very much.

I also have the M3teorite with all three baseplates. I've used only the mild baseplate which compares with setting #2 on the adjustable. I believe I like the M3teorite with than baseplate better than the adjustable on setting #2.

I have lots of adjustables. I tend to like 'em. Some don't have a setting mild enough for me to enjoy shaving my upper lip ATG, but some are great in that area as is the M3teorite.

Happy shaves,

Jim

A superb shave.

It's great to be back with my Grail Razor. The M3teorite was excellent but not as fabulous as the OliBlade.

Happy shaves guys. :cornut:
