Anti-BBS

No offense intended, friend, but I think that stubble look is plain silly, unless you are a Gucci or Guess Jeans model---

I might be a bit jealous--- one, because I am way too old to pull it off... and even if I were younger, I could not pull it off, mainly beause my beard is very uneven------ in other words, the stubble would be more scragly than stubbly---

do what suits ya--- but I wouldn't go to any job interviews with a 5 o'clock bloom goin on---:001_cool:

If we are talking about skin health - a 1 pass shave may be easier on the face than 3 passes. If I do 1 pass I tend to leave an uneven amount of hair on my face so it doesnt work that well on me. I need 2 passes and I get a DFS.

Stubble can look very bad on people with uneven patchy beard growth - but studies have shown that it does give that emphasis on the lower jaw that seems to create a positive reaction from women.

When i do shave, i strive for BBS because my skin cant take shaving every day, and the closer i get it today the better i look tomorrow. Also, The boss, and SWMBO both like a reeeeeeeeally close shave.

Now i aim almost BBS everyday,
but when i started using a DE i didn't mind a DFS and a couples of stubbles.
Once you get your technique down it's different.

I grew a beard when I was 23-24 because I look 16 years old without it. Combine this with my new love for shaving and seeming inability to get a BBS after 6/7 months, and I have stubble about 3 hours after shaving. So I think it helps keep me looking closer to my age to have a bit of shadow.

I normally go for BBS every morning. I bugs me to rub my neck and feel stubble. I usually get some irritation because I am so anal about it. But after reading this thread I thought to my self "I will just try getting DFS." I did 2 passes and called it quits. I got a decent shave but I still just couldn't stop rubbing the spots that weren't perfect. I just feel like not getting BBS is like only brushing half of my teeth, or putting deodorant under only one arm. Just my opinion.

+1

I'm with you. After my usual 3 passes, I ran my fingers and most of the time I will reapply some lather and some touchups on areas where I feel some stubble is left. Yeah, it does result in irritation sometimes, but I just can't resist it...

To the OP, if you dont have to shave closely for work and if you dont want to, then by all means dont! If some people get bent out of shape because of it, well consider that a bonus.

Well said! I suppose that's one of the benefits of being an educator. As long as you don't look like your students or a complete schlep, nobody cares (although I dress better than 90% of the other educators at my school)!

Well said! I think what I was trying to get at with this entire thread was maybe a little lost.

?

Just my two cents, but I always go for, and get, BBS every time. Not only is it professionalism at play, but my lady appreciates the fact that it doesn't hurt to kiss me.

Now, I am only 25, and have never understood the stubble look. Few guys can pull it off, and the modern fashion of letting whatever pathetic hairs on your face grow into a "beard" makes adherents look less like men and more like hobos. If you have the hairs to grow a beard, grow a beard and keep it professional-looking. If not, shave it off.

+1. just going through the motions takes the enjoyment out of it. If i didnt want a BBS shave i would use goo and a mach 3.

I think it's an age thing! Can feel the urge to start going on about "the youth of today"

I agree it's an age thing. I used to shave every other day. Then it turned to well, I will shave when I am in front of a client. Then, when the first grey hairs appeared, it became shave every day.

I think the shadow look was even bigger 20-25 years ago (George Michael, for instance)

I think it's the youth of any day.

All the same, we'll stay off your lawn :)

This was just really funny, made me chuckle out loud.

I usually strive for BBS, but will try out a DFS/SAS shave with two quick passes.

I guess that puts me in the age group that doesn't feel like the stubbly look works for them.

Agreed. It does not work after a certain age.

George Michael and his beard are definitely not what I was talking about in regards to stubble. I view stubble as just - less than 1mm - past the skin; meaning you wouldn't feel it when rubbing WTG but would ATG. Would others call this a DFS or SAS?

I would say that if you do not see the stubble at normal viewing distance, ie the distance your employer would be from you, it is called clean shaven. After that point, you are talking about tactile feel, and that is a personal thing. If you like to faceturbate, you are a BBS guy, if not, you are one of the others.

I sit here right now, with two fast passes being done this morning, with less then perfect equipment. Didn't want to push it to a third pass. Mistake!
Rubbing the slight stubble at my cheeks that has already developed, thanks to the non-BBS shave this morning.
I just don't have enough mental strength to live with that.
Tomorrow I'll be home again & then I'll definitely go nuts with the NEW/Bleue/TABAC for ultimate BBS.

RE: the stubble look.
IMO, its a very good example of whatthe general standard of the world has come to.
May it be music, cars or general behaviour towards others.
So-so is the standard to live by..

Like someone said, grow a beard or get a proper shave!

Before I started shaveing with a DE, BBS meant much irritation and razor bumps. Being in the military, I need to have at minimum of a good "close" shave look. and I try to shave only every other day. Problematic on off days when briefing to General Officers.

since using the DE, however, can get the BBS without the irritation and bumps, face looks better, feels halthier and shave last longer. Plus the wife likes to touch my face more now.

Cannot afford the 5 o'clock shadow for my job, but find the BBS more comfortable with the DE anyway.

my 2 cents

+1,000,000.

This is what I was trying to say in my earlier posts.
