2024 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Year of MacGyver

5 August 2024

Still in with a check-in before starting a 2-week trip. No temptations. I did toss the last little bit remaining of a Cremo Refreshing tube as it was getting kind of clumpy and difficult to add water to it. Maybe too old?

Proraso Red Cream
Hand-applied
Leaf Twig
Perma-Sharp -1
Duke Cannon ASB

The travel kit includes a Gillette Fusion with a ProGlide cartridge, Speick Cream, and PdP 63 ASB.

Wow, I now feel like I am wasting blades... I use 8-9 a year. OTOH, I am working on 3017'g my second soap since Feb 2019. Yes, the brick of Vitos might be cheating a bit but I figured the Tabac would be used up by now.

Ruckin <- doesn't load enough apparently

.ps Still not in but enjoying the cookies.

I managed to MacGyver myself out of a pickle yesterday. Came across a bonified barbershop like we want to see in every city! MdC, Le Pere Lucien, Mondial, razors, blades - it looked like some people dens I imagine! But luckily all available in the future as well and no razors to get hyped about.

Keep it up gentlemen! You are doing a very fine job here!!

Still in!

Back from camping in the mountains; the cool weather was a nice break from the stifling August Texas heat.

Unlike a year ago, where I managed to lose my top cap during the same pilgrimage, my razor made it back safe. That carelessness a year ago landed me here in search for knowledge and was the start of a razor purchasing spree. But thanks to GRUME and knowledge found here, that nonsense settled. Now GRUYERE helps steer clear of minor impulses - so far, so good.

Take care everyone.

Hi,

Oh, dear. A razor purchasing spree. Been There, Done That - didn't get a T-Shirt. And, my wife is a screenprinter! :p

It's amazing how much money those can cost. Mine was back in 2012.

(a) Try all the vintage Gillettes, which was easy enough as I already had some of those. Nut I had to get them all, of course, up until 1960 anyway.

(b) My discovery of Slants. Yay! More razors to buy and try!

Wait. where did all that money get to? Well all of us here know where!

But then I was saved by a Fasan Double Slant. Enter the 4th quarterly. Continue into the 2014 Year-long. Sell off many of those other razors. Kept my heirloom ones of course and a few of those many Gillettes.

It's great to see you keeping on with us!

I bought my son some soap (Monsavon and Wilkinson) as he was out and I came across Aqua Velva which I also bought for him. Both as small vacation presents from France where we stayed this year. He found it both smelling nicely. So mission accomplished.

Meanwhile I myself am experiencing total boredom. I have had some mild temptations, but nothing spectacular. What I do sense is that a change once in a while because of a new soap or a new razor would be nice. No RAD levels or hoarding like behaviour. Which is one of the successes of this restraint for me. But some sense of variety.

I hope it will fade away.

I need to check the shed for some things I can out together into a brand new home build razor! :cuppa:

So far still in.

Cheers,

Guido

Are we still doing this? :letterk1:

No temptations, not even finding out about the RR King Louis soap base being similar to another soap. I'll get some in Jan.

Back to cooking fajitas. Thighs are almost done. Corn "off the cob", peppers and onions are ready. Time to assemble with some cheese and garden jalapeno.
