2024 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Year of MacGyver

Guido75

Is it swell time?
Still not it, but took a break from the cookies yesterday to enjoy some good barbecue. Not purchasing anything shave related as I near the half way point of the decade sabbatical. When I look at my spreadsheet of supplies and the current consumption rate my soap will last well into the 2040s and my blades even longer. No temptation to acquire anything shaving related at this time.
You are “not joining” 2025 as well I assume? And then stopping by occasionally too? We appreciate the company!

Yes, I will be not joining 2025 as well, but will post/drop by occasionally. I mean someone needs to show people where the dark side keeps the cookies. :sneaky2:

I have plenty of supplies to get me through the decade sabbatical so I have very little worry of needing to purchase anything. I guess I need to figure out who the "bad guys" are for 2025.

Ruckin - still not in.

13 December 2024

Still in and basically finished! We are leaving early next week for a trip to spend the Holidays with our daughter and granddaughter in Hawaii. (I guess the son-in-law too, lol). I will pack a Mach 3 and some Pacific Natural cream for the trip, but no purchases on the horizon.

Today I used my Twig loaded with a fresh KCG half blade. Lather started with Arko, but I added some Trader Joe's cream to tackle my wiry goatee area when I felt some unnecessary tugging with the Arko by itself. Problem solved. Finished with Speick splash for a very nice, irritation-free DFS++.

The sabbatical has been great and relatively easy for me. As I was contemplating participating in the 2025 sabbatical it hit me that my primary goal in doing this was to reach a state akin to homeostasis. That is, adjusting for external forces, stay in balance. For me, that means keeping a very reasonable inventory and replacing things I use up as I go. No net gains in stuff. As an example, I primarily use creams over soaps. I have a current inventory of 5 partial tubes of creams in various states (Trader Joe's, Proraso Red, Pacific Natural, Speick and Ach Brito Lavanda). To me, this is plenty of variety and when one is used up, I will replace it either with the same thing or with another choice.

Maybe I will play from the sidelines or go back to the GRUME world.

I wish you all grace and peace!
Hope you've had safe travels if you're already there - which island btw ?
Have family on both Oahu and Maui, but it's been a few years since we've last spent Christmas there...

Still in, and my soap restock in January was more than enough. No need for blades since I only used a few, and most were carry overs from previous years. A few days ago I put in a half hearted bid on a vintage ER lather catcher (my exception), but I didn’t get it. I may not buy my exception this year, unless it is to replace my travel razor, a Trac II I left in a hotel room two years ago. But since I’m still using a couple of disposables inherited from my father in law in 2019, I think that can wait. I won’t be joining next year, mainly since I haven’t been taking the time to read and post much of this year. It’s been fun, and I’ve enjoyed “meeting” many of you over the past 4 years in GRUME and this thread.

LJ! How wonderful of you to stop by! And way to go you are still in. I am guessing the Feather blade is approaching 700 by now?!

Feel free to stop by anytime in GRUYÈRE 2025 - we have friendly bypasses checking in and out throughout the year anyway.

Cheers!

Guido
