2025 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Battlestar Galactica Year

There were some amazing sales on the bst. Somebody had an OG above the tie SB90 and a feather AS D2. For a reasonable price. I have one of those sb 90s and let me tell you it's amazing. I'm glad I killed my RAD a couple years ago.

Once again, stay off the BST if you hope to survive!

But Jeff, please tell us what you bought

Week 5 complete, still in.

I think we're doing pretty good suffering only three casualties so far, but I thought I'd share some of my personal strategies for sabbatical success with those of you who may be struggling with impulse purchases.

First, unsubscribe to any shave-related mailing lists or condition yourself to "swipe left" on any email notifications and/or offers.

I keep an ongoing wish list of shaving items that I review and update throughout the year as my needs/wants fluctuate. I also keep a few notes arguing for and against the items.

Instead of browsing the B-S-T Marketplace and subjecting myself to possible temptations, I use a website to monitor the forum for specific keywords to flag threads that may have items of interest to trade. I receive an email of any hits which allows me to avoid any potential derailments by just browsing.

In the end, I may find myself purchasing something I don’t really need during the restock period in January, but at least I'll feel a little better knowing that I've given it some thoughtful consideration.

I really wish I had done this a few years ago because I'm somewhat certain I wouldn't have dozens of razors and brushes that go unused along with soaps and creams I may never finish. I hope this post helps.

Have a good day and a better tomorrow

You won’t survive if you’re on the BST thread, or any other sites for that matter. The “I’m just looking” doesn’t work 😀. Anyway, I’m still in.

It's stuff that isn't made any more that always gets me. I always tell myself 'this might be my last opportunity to try XYX before it's gone forever"...or at least becomes absurdly expensive

PTSD from procrastinating too long on getting I coloniali mango... which I've still yet to try despite wanting to for many years.

I always wanted to try Sir Irisch Moos soap. It never happened. I console myself with the thought that it would likely have been anti-climactic.

It was liberating to say no to myself!
+1!! I am not even in and find it quite satisfying to be able to say... "nah I pass". In addition, I am working on learning to give things to others that can use (not very good at it yet)... I am starting with books I have read but wont read again. Who knows maybe someday I might loose my mind pass on something shaving or fountain pen related... (lets not get crazy )

Ruckin - still not in.

In the 2021, 2023 and 2024 GRUYERE's I always listed my exemption as a brush but I never used the exemption. Even in 2022 when I wasn't in the GREYERE I never bought a brush. Well I finally bit the bullet during the restock period this year and bought the brush I've always wanted, an Omega Jade from Connaught Shaving.

The brush arrived today and she is a beauty, can't wait to give it a spin tomorrow!

Gentlemen. I broke another lather bowl today, and I'd like to know whether Rule #11 allows for purchasing a replacement. In addition to a kitchen full of assorted crockery, I have a second bowl of the same type I broke, already gift-wrapped for my brother's birthday. In short... am I OK to purchase another for myself?

This is the toughest dilemma I've encountered for quite a bit. Maybe one of the more senior forum members can channel their inner Solomon here and provide a path to enlightenment through this ethical thicket...

Man, I think that would be good but like lurking_grue said, senior people might know more.

I dropped mine but it was 3d printed so I just printed a new one 😀

Is it swell time?
a kitchen full of assorted crockery
While this might be the frugal and minimalistic way to go and almost doubling down on your restraint, I can understand that kitchen crockery is meant to remain kitchen crockery.

If you are a bowl latherer and you have no spare or backup I would say as per rule #11 you are allowed one replacement purchase as not having a bowl would be akin to you not shaving.

Might I suggest though something of a more unbreakable nature? Given the fact we are early in the restraint and it happening before.

What are your thoughts Stan @KQY61?

Cheers,

Guido
