Lupo 95 Honeymoon

Hi @NEPA507, I also like my Lupo .95 OC a lot. Thinking about it, all Wolfman head design razor are at least great if not fantastic, but instead of gushing some hints how you can make your LUPO EXPERIENCE even better!

1. Timeless Ti Crown handle. Fits this razor so perfectly that it is now on permanent Lupo duty.

2. Lupo .95 OC. It's adding some extra to the shave and I always liked the OC for Lupos better. For instance I rather shaved with the .72 OC side of the Lupo DC instead of the. 95 SB. And I don't even have a thick beard at all, it's just a better shave with the OC.
I’ve been resisting the urge to try that Timeless Crown handle for a while now, I feel like I can’t justify it without buying an entire Timeless TI razor... I do have the RazoRock TI Halo handle and it works great as well.

This difference is even less pronounced with the Lupo, its straight bar is scalloped and feels similar to the open comb on the skin and also leaves the “lather trails” you mentioned.

I last shaved with the .72SB and will be using the .72OC this evening to compare yet again. From my memory the two felt similar, with a very slight advantage going to the OC due to the ease of rinsing.
I got impatient and logged my head shave with the .72OC earlier in the day than I was planning to, and as I remember it felt extremely similar to its SB counterpart. So similar that I even paused mid-shave to switch back to the SB and I still struggled to feel a real difference between the two. Maybe a bit less blade feel with the SB? But it was close enough that I was wondering if the difference was all in my head because I was expecting it. The OC definitely rinses easier but I wouldn’t say that the SB struggles here.

I don’t know. The two really felt interchangeable for me so far. I’ll keep switching back and forth until I notice a real difference. Good problem to have I suppose.

The .95SB was a noticeable step up in aggression and has a separate time and place in my razor rotation.

It’s my opinion that RR’s take on open combs is simply a safety bar with notches cut out rather than a “true” open comb where the blade rests on a comb with a very small blade gap, like the Old Type or Merkur 15C. I have the Game Changer 68 in OC and SB, and the Lupo 95 in OC and SB. I can’t tell any difference between their respective OC and SB plates when I shave daily. I imagine the OC might be more helpful with several days growth, but I can’t say for sure.

I think it’s more accurate to describe them as SBs with notches.

I think you’re on to something here.
I’ll do a true side by side comparison next week, and if it still feels the same for me I think I’ll primarily go with the .72OC for the rinsing factor.

I still like the SB on the Game Changer, it also has much better lather channels than the SB Lupo.

It's not even a comparison how much the Ti Crown is ahead of the Ti Halo. Seriously. Not kidding and not bashing the Ti Halo handle. Just get one and then remember this conversation, the Ti Crown handle is a marvel, I am absolutely serious.

Darn you, I should be suing for RAD related damages.

What was your matte vs. polished preference?

Did a side-by-side for the .72SB vs .72OC and again couldn’t pick up on any significant differences. I liked the feeling of the SB on my skin better by the tiniest margin, but the shave was really the exact same otherwise. The OC does rinse easier but I didn’t run into any major clogs with the SB. Personally I think I’m going to default to the SB for most days and then turn to the OC for heavier growth.

The Lupo .72 is quickly becoming one of my favorite overall razors. Next side-by-side I’m doing will be against the Game Changer .84.

I have a Lupo 95 SB and it is my first love. The first DE razor I truly loved from day one. Nimble and efficient. I have to agree that the Timeless Crown handle touched the Lupo, and I could never break that bond, perfect match. I have many razors I like, but the Lupo 95 with a Crown handle and Gillette Silver Blue blades is a match made in heaven

Going into a week, I still love this razor. I used my least favorite blade today just to see if I could get a bad shave...Astra Superior Platinum (yes I just heard some of the ladies in the back faint when I said that). Anyway, it wasn't as close of a shave as the Wizamet, but somehow I was able to use some additional techniques like blade buffing. excessive pressure, and back-dragging some lather back and forth and go over a spot much more than I had any business doing like around the chin and jawline and the alum block still took mercy on me. I don't know why, but the Lupo continues to do no harm even in the worst of circumstance. I have one more blade I want to run in it (BIC Chrome Platinum, and then experiment with my less than ideal situations like shower shaving quicker with Kiss My Face. From there, I think I'll end up investing in a 250 pack of Wizamets which I estimate to last me about 2 years if I only use a blade twice. I am also still very inclined to get the 127 and 58 baseplate for further experimentation. The 58 might get used a couple times then sold, but curiosity will get the better of me. Or, maybe the 58 will be the go to shower plate. The 127 might be my long Sunday morning plate, or maybe I'll even love it more than the 95!

BIC Platinum and Lupo.95 OC. I am not a fan of the Astras in anything. They are not even the cheapest anymore, that's the metric where they used to score high.

Of course blades seem to be highly subjective, so everyone can feel free to show bad taste! 😀✌️

I pick 5 favorite razors (out of many), which are then kept in the rack on my bathroom counter for rotation. The 72 and 95 have stayed there permanently and rub shoulders with the Blackbird, Wolfman and Yates 921 EH, so yeah...
call me a fan.

I hereby appoint you a High Priest of the Lupo cult.

I'm more of the King's Hand or the Shogun's Samurai type of guy but...

I did just finish a shave about 30min ago with the Lupo 95 and that German made Schick blade. Fantastic duo.
I mean it, seriously. Who else but you. You plated a Lupo plate with copper. And you bought multiple Lupo heads of the same version.

err... well, umm <cough> actually I have multiple heads of different versions. Copper plated 95 SB and OC but then I needed two identical plates for blind blade testing so ended up with two 72 SS plates and then recently added two 95 SB plates in stainless.

There! You happy? I feel so unburdened now after my confession.
Perhaps you should be the Priest. :ihih:
