Hibbard, Bartlett & Spencer restoration

Just received this in the mail.



It's pretty rusty but the metal isn't pitted at all. First thing I did was soak it in WD40. I am not sure if I am going to take it apart yet. I got some brass rod about the size that I could use as new pins.

I post updates as I go.

BTW that looks to be the original box but the paper label is too faded to know for sure.

So I cleaned off most of the rust and all that is left is the patina. It is clean enough that I would shave with it. But I am not done, I am going to bring it up to a mirror finish or damn near. The good news is I don't think I will have to take the pins out.

Good progress so far! It will be a lot easier to get a good polish on the blade if you take the scales off.

True but it is also an added area of complexity. Not to mention as it stands now it is all original. I like wear it sit now. There is a little bit of the patina on it still but I like it. I'll post pictures soon.
