What's new

$30 Toggle @ antique store

Full disclosure: it's very much user grade. Still looks good though. Nothing to beat one's chest over but more of a soft smile. I got a long in the tooth toggle! Pics after cleaning. Just got home.

I would not worry about cleaning too much, they will take care of that when you send it in for a nice chrome plating job...at the price you paid you are way ahead of the game ..good score !

Wow! Congratulations. I thought I was luck when I found one a week or so ago for 65 at an antique store...maybe they are not rare at all after all. :confused1:wink2:

Pics PLEASE! :001_smile

PS, I gave mine a 6 hour bath yesterday in mineral oil with no ill effects. Operates like new now.

+1. That price simply SCREAMS for a replating splurge. Massive congrats!

Ok here are the pics. I HAD all the numbers on there & the red dot but upon doing the tooth brush cleaning it came off.

So Iw alked into the store as I did two weeks ago & talked to the lady owner at the counter and after some pleasent chit chat I asked if she had any double edge razors in. She said she did. She escorted me to the center of the store to a "shiny" Toggle. I couldn't believe my eyes! There on a pedestal was a mirror made of the same brass as the toggle in the shape of a "wing" with two rings held the Toggle and an badger brush. This Toggle was in BAD shape. Still had gunk between the teeth which after carefully poking with a paper clip started to come out.

So question: What is replating & what does it involve..I do a search too. Thanks all for your comments!

The ShaveWiki has an article on replating, which links some relevant threads and lists some of the better providers.
That razor actually looks in pretty good shape! You might want to shave with it for a while before you send it off, otherwise you might get the willies about using it when it comes back so pretty!

Still looks pretty good. I don't know that I would replate that.

Love the honesty. I'm like a dog with an old bone. I'm Happy as can be to have scored one but I thik I'll just polish it a bit & put it up in my mini museum. Makes me happy. On to the next hunt.....

I wouldn't replate just repaint the numbers and the red dot with modelers paint and a toothpick and use it.
