Not always. I've been in 5-6 different auto zones and Home Depots. I've seen Home Depot carry everything from 80-2000 and autozone carry 1000, 1200, 1500, 2500, and 3000. More of a micro mesh on a foam pad the 3000 is. As it stands I have everything from 80-3000 and multiple packs of each because I never know when I'll be able to get them again. Literally about 25 packs of sandpaper. My wife thinks I'm an idiot.
Sometimes I use wd40 but not often. After the 3000 I hit it with flitz, a green liquid metal polish in a black bottle that I picked up at ace hardware then usually mothers mag and aluminum. I've found it less abrasive than flitz. It's usually multiple rounds of both. About 5. After that I buff with a microfiber cloth for that real shine. Then I pin and make the scales.
