Hello everyone, we have great pleasure in introducing our latest razor and razor head from our
“Sword” series of razors.
Previously in our Sword series we brought you the “Katana” our first single edge razor and
razor head, which has proven very popular among shavers. It utilizes a ‘half ‘DE type blade, is
efficient and gives a great shave.
Now we are very proud to introduce to you the latest edition to our Sword series.
Again it is a single edge razor but this time it utilizes a different type of blade, the specialist
“Artist Club, professional” style blade, much loved and preferred by professional barbers
worldwide. The most popular blades of this type are of course made in Japan under the brand
names of Feather and Kai, both of which will fit in our latest offering. Here at Yaqi we chose the
design precisely because we wanted to bring to you a ‘professional’ shave experience.
We are offering our new product in two separate versions, the “Excalibur” head for which you
can use the handle of your own (all Yaqi handles will fit perfectly), or the Full “rapier Razor
which comes with a handle perfectly matched to suit the style, shape and weight of the razor
head. The choice is yours, however whichever you choose, we will supply one brand new artist
club style Feather blade so that you can experience a great shave as soon as possible.
We are confident you will indeed experience one of the best, most smooth, most effective
shaves ever, either with the “Excalibur” head and your own choice of handle, or with the full

“Rapier” razor for which we have developed and chosen a perfectly balanced handle to match.

Yes, this looks to me like Yaqi's Flagrantly Unethical Ripoff of the Blackland Razor Vector v.2 because the first Yaqi copy sucked so badly.

What's the harm, you may ask?

1. It is theft of a modern currently manufactured high-level razor designed, marketed, and sold by Blackland. The manufacturer bears the cost, and Article I of the U.S. Constitution protects inventors by protecting patents, copyrights, and trademarks "to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries." We may disagree about how long "limited times" should run, but it is clear that the Blackland Vector is well within the reasonable time to protect its invention.

2. The first Yaqi copy performed very poorly, and nothing like a Blackland Vector, from the reports I read. Blackland suffers because people think the tools are equivalent, but they are not.

While not a fan of my Matte Excalibur, the Chromed one is better. The Zamak head partial threads though, concerned me but, the cost was not significant either. I'm not going to be stressed over a razor head that cost what 2 or 3 disposable razors do these days when it strips the threads or otherwise breaks

The polished stainless version should be a good match for me. I was trying to warm up to something like the Claymore but, I was having a hard time warming up to its handle and the location of the threads on the top-cap. If this one shaves similarly to my chromed Excalibur, I'd call it a winner.

With AC-bladed razors, you really either mimic something like the Vector or the Razorock Hawk series. You can only do so much with a 50mm wide and skinny blade with attaching a handle to it. Sure, you could play with blade gaps and exposure but, not nearly as much as you can with DE razors in general.

Regarding copies, the Hawks and Claymores share a lot of visual similarities as well. Are they clones and knock-offs of each other too? 🤷

The only thing to cause me some pause in my purchase was the 12mm handle. The Matte Excalibur came with one that was 12mm and had very little texture on its matte surface. That handle and my hand are a bit "oil and water" to the point it hurts my hand to do an entire shave with it which I blame on years of repetitive hand stress. Using chopsticks does the to me as well.

I am hopeful that the different design of the handle will work better for me along with the extra weight of stainless steel.

While I agree that a T-style razor that is a vehicle for delivering the edge of an AC blade to stubble probably has only a small number of viable designs, what made the Vector so innovative was the thread design, which allowed the head to be much smaller.

This razor clearly 'borrowed' the idea. I don't know whether the half-thread idea was patented, or even whether it is/was patentable, but I think it should have been. If it had been, action could be taken against this replica specifically because of its use of the half-thread design, although I don't know how difficult it might be to get any mileage out of a patent infringement when it comes from another country.

I shaved a fortune
When I first started shaving, I ended up choosing between three razors: The ESC Outlaw, the ESC Claymore Evolution and the RR Hawk V3. I ended up with the Claymore because it doesn't have the titled down head. I was just guessing at that point, as I was brand new.... I still use the Claymore Evo around my nose and up into my nostrils every shave. I'm sure it isn't as maneuverable as the BlackLand Vector, but it sure works for me.

I hear ya' on the Claymore. I'm still tempted to pick one up and giving it a whirl.

It has become basically my "daily" razor. Sure, some days I don't shave or try a different razor but, this one has proven to be a real winner for me and it does most of my shaves. Easy carefree shaves that are close and generally without any irritation are easy and almost effortless at this point.

I really like the AC blade stiffness and the ease of shaving with the Rommulus. Its polished surface is also a real winner for me as it is 'slicker' on my face with less drag.

A two-pass shave is generally in the DFS to entry-level BBS class. If I use it daily, it is definitely pushing BBS territory if I take my time and don't hurry through the shave. If I do some minor clean up passes, it will hit BBS every time.

Heads up for anyone looking to buy one of these: Yaqi shows a good sale price starting in ~13 hours from now.

I don't need a second one so, I have my eye on the Slope and Harlequin.
I was looking at their sale on the Romulus at around $55US and it would be a good deal for a person living in USA with the strong dollar. In Canadian dollars it would be around $75 Can. Looks better for build than my Excalibur but they should just sell the Romulus head because I have a nice handle already( Yaqi Milano handle SSP) I bought sometime ago and like that slim feel of the Milano handle.

Thanks, nice deal. Have read good reviews of the razor, but not sure what to make of the handle. Thoughts?

I kind of like the look of the handle. With the narrow and thin head you need a dainty handle. I can work with the shape of the handle. It has those multi step up rings at the head end that will be good for when you want to choke up on the handle when needed, which I do. And the butt-end design adds a grip spot for when I like to hold the handle near the end when I shave XTG on my neck.

Regarding the handle, on the Excalibur I have, it is worthless. Way too fine to hold comfortably. I have some repetitive hand stress issues occasionally so, my experience may not match others. The head and handle are also very light so, while it gives me a good shave in the polished version, it is bit irksome for me to use.

The Romulus handle and head are a great combination IMHO. The weight and polish make the shave experience much better IMHO. The steps on the handle and its weight are easy for me to hold and manipulate and really aids the shaving experience.
