The Renaissance of hair pomades & the new Golden Age

Kev, absolutely. If you get a chance try Bees Knees pomades. Beeswax and lanolin base with essential oils for conditioning and scent. Good stuff.

This thread has opened up a new AD for me. I have four pomades as of now. I started with Dapper Dan Deluxe. That pomade is good place to start, but I hardly use it now.

My current line up is Dapper Dan, King Brown Long Hold, Lockhart's Medium Hold, and Tres Flores.

I really like King Brown. The scent smells just like HTGAM Cavendish to my nose. It goes in very easily, it combs through with little difficulty, it has a nice shine to it, and it lasts a long time.

Lockhart's Medium Hold is just as good, but I think it's just behind King Brown. It has a nice sandalwood scent and it stays with you. It has a waxy surface that really threw me off when I first opened it up and tried to apply it. But once I broke through the surface, I was met with a consistency like a thick hand cream. The hold is very impressive too. It easily lasted my whole 8 hour shift. I'll revisit this in a week or so.

Tres Flores is what I'm working on now. It has a light scent that lingers. It also gives a decent shine and combs in very easily. I also love how it's water based and takes very little effort to rinse out of my hair. The hold is decent. It's not as good as the oil based ones I have.

To get the oil based pomades out of my hair, I use Groom and Clean. I put some in my hair and style it like I normally would. I leave it in for about an hour and then rinse it out in the shower. It almost rinses out completely.

My most sought after pomades are

1. Sweet Georgia Brown in the blue tin.
2. Uppercut Deluxe.
3. Black and white hairdressing.
4. Teddy Boy.
5. Type 550.

Wow, am I lacking! I only have two pomades right now: Murray's Superior and Reuzel Red. I also have a tube of Groom & Clean and a tub of Clubman Gel (the green one).

I bought the Groom & Clean to help get the Murray's out of my hair. I used to wear it as a kid, so I tried just the G&C in my hair the other day and really liked the way it looked!! I find it fascinating that I'm always drawn back to classic products.

First Off Lockhart's Goon Grease with the Cinnamon Sandalwood scent will be in my hands next week.

Secondly, anyone know if Heavy Hold is stronger than Goon Grease?
