The MMA Thread

This isn't UFC news, but MMA related.

My friend Josh Appelt won the heavyweight title at Westcoast Fighting Championship last night:

Also my buddy from college, Brandon Mccaghren, was awarded a black belt in the 10th Planet BJJ system by Eddie Bravo.

In other news, I have a single, lonely stripe on my white belt :)

That's great for you and both your friends!

Theres a Video on youtube that shows the way he trains weights.... and its painfully obvious why he gets injured so much.

I haven't seen the video. Does he use really poor technique?

Cain training weights... No wonder he's had to have acl and shoulder surgeries

not sure why the embed code isnt working. Each video is only about 50 seconds though.

That is just ridiculous. Don't worry about good form or technique just grind out reps.

Looks like Hendricks vs Thompson...until Hendricks doesn't make weight and they cancel the card entirely

Could you imagine? Maybe Jones will step in and "save" the card

Me too. I don't think he's ducking Miocic, but the majority of money Champs make is from PPV points and he won't make squat fighting Stipe. Much more rematching Cain.

I'm on the fence about $$$ vs. "ducking". Yeah, it's not as much coin, but it's more than sitting at home playing Xbox. Got to be tough to be training and planning for a wrestling heavy opponent who uses Ground 'n' Pound and pressure, only to have that switched out to a striking heavy stand-up fight.

Pretty decent card, it possibly could've held up as a PPV.

Don't click this unless you've seen the event or just don't care either way...

Looks like Dana's hype train just lost even more steam when Sage tapped out. It looked like he could've worked his way out, but I think he panicked from being in an unfamiliar spot. He'll be back and will most likely get better now that the hype is off. First Ronda, then Paige, now Sage...only one left is McGregor.

Overall I thought it was a good card.

During the fight it seemed to me that Sage tapped early but Rogan and the guys on the Post-fight show said that they have all seen guys tap from that position. It will be interesting to see what happens in his next fight. I thought Rogan or Goldberg said that he is moving to Tri-Star or just moved there.

Ben Rothwell... That looked like an incredibly painful neck crank.

I have to agree with you George, Rumble is a scary guy. It didn't look like he was hitting Bader all that hard, but those punches were devastating.

Sage tapped to a joint lock, correct? I know a few guys who "fight" as part of their Martial Arts training (tournaments only). They have ALL said that they would NEVER tap to chokes, but would do so to joint locks. A choke leaves you with a headache when you wake up, a joint lock can destroy ligaments, tendons, etc, if you do not tap quickly enough. Just look at the damage done by Palhares when he holds on too long. I can see a relatively new fighter like Sage tapping quickly to prevent an injury.
