Why did the British division of Gillette so rarely make gold-plated razors? They were fairly common in the uS during the same era that Gillette used rhodium. But there was at least one exception -- maybe others also -- but this is such a fine example of British craftsmanship and shaving indulgence.

What a beauty

English chemist, William Hyde Wollaston discovered the metal in 1803, soon after he discovered palladium and around the same time Smithson Tennant (also English) discovered both osmium and iridium. [The rarity of the metal contributed to robust pricing over the last 80.]

Also, the early British rule over Africa and it's various mines made it an easy to get and viable choice.
