Straight Razor Acquisition Thread

Actually I tell I lie... I do have another Joseph Rodgers razor, but it's also sitting in my 'to do' pile. A weird and highly ornate old wedge, with some of the most beautifully figured horn scales I've ever seen. Perhaps I'll do them both up together this weekend.

I have an old TI from about the 1930's I suppose
because the scales have an image of a diver wearing dive shoes
which resemble ballet slippers.

The toe of that razor is double scalloped like your Rogers.
Do you suppose that is merely a style,
or maybe some cracks in the steel were milled out,
or something else?

Oh I don’t know tbh, I’m definitely not an old razor expert!

In knifemaking terms it’d be extremely unusual to get cracks in that kind of way and area during HT, but maybe razors might be different (?).

My one is from the ‘Regency’ period, ie early c.19th, and the fashion back then was fairly flamboyant, so I suspect it’s because of that. And (to make a sweeping generalisation) - the French like a bit of decoration too, don’t they!

And one more while we're at it. A $20 Union Spike for testing stones. This makes five Union Spikes for me: one NOS and four user-grade test razors.

Before.

After a little clean-up. I chose not to go for perfection on this one.

Looks good and like good work on your part. Man, that bronze patina, though . . . it is appealing to me. Wonder what conditions created that finish.
