An excellent shave.

It was difficult to drag myself away from my Blackbird, but I wanted to get a full 7o'clock shave in before 7 O'CLOCK WEEK finished. It's been another great week. BIG THANKS Ivan (@ivan_101) for hosting it again; it's been great fun.

Happy shaves guys. :cornut:

Razor - Alpha Outlaw Evo Ti
Blade - Schick Double Edge
Brush - Alpha Outlaw Stars and Stripes
Software - HAGS Megalodon

The Alpha Outlaw razor has always been a good shaver. It was a close shaver that efficient yet not overly aggressive. When they announced V2 Evo of this razor, I hoped they would keep the shaving characteristics of this razor with the upgrade, and they have. There are a few razors that don’t require a lot of buffing to shave close, and this one is one of them.

After 3 passes, there were no annoying stubbles that I could feel in the usual areas on my jawline where most of my razors need an additional pass and lots of buffing to get. The polish on the titanium is mirror like and overall fit and finish is excellent.

It really pairs well with this Schick blade, which has been sharp yet very smooth. They are right up there with Wilkinson Sword and Personna Lab Blue with shaving smoothness and comfort.

HAGS Megalodon scent is amazing and so is the performance of the soap. I actually like the scent more than their Dark Side and Memento Mori, which are good in their own right.

Pre-shave: Shower & bloom water rinse
Razor: Wolfman WR2 0.90mm
Blade: Nacet (2)
Soap: GD Visage
Brush: Grizzly Bay with Zingari coin
Post Shave: Alum
Balm: Stirling Unscented
And a splash of The Veg

I believe the brush with Zingari coin is a one of a kind. I haven’t seen other WR2s in 0.90mm, but I’m not sure if it is truly rare. A great shave regardless.

5 out of 5 stars

Didn’t have much growth after last night’s slant shave but if I didn’t shave I’d have a nasty 5 o’clock shadow at 5 am so figured I’d get out the Mach 3 for a quick no hassle shave. Enjoyed the soap but the aftershave not so much (it hit the trash can), and since it is witch hazel based I skipped my normal routine which was just weird, and I missed my alcohol AS. Have to admit cartridge razors like the Mach 3 and the Sensor work well but I have such a hard time paying $2+ for cartridges (but no problem buying soap and aftershave by the truckload) and unless they hadn’t been on sell for prime day I wouldn’t have bought them. It’s funny in the 4 or 5 years I was away from the hobby I never even touched a cartridge and now I find myself experimenting with them again.

High Efficiency August 2023

Razor: Wolfman 1.55 WR2 SB with Darwin Handle
Blade: Astra SS
Brush: Ap Shave Co Cobalt handle Muehle STF 25 mm
Preshave: PAA the Cube
Soap: Meštar Dišpet
Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino 70th year anniversary

(If this is too long for your reading you can skip of course or even if it was shorter you can always skip, this is just my thoughts after a shave :001_smile)

The Wolfman 1.55 WR2 SB with the Darwin handle, nothing to add there, I like the combination of the handle and razor head giving it a lighter weight, I also love the WRH1 solid handle as well, giving it a heavier weight so its a nice change and works very well for me, both handles.

The Astra SS, first time using it, never used it before. When I first started wetshaving a little over a year ago I used the Astra SP, was not a fan, like not at all and have not used them since. I know many people love them but they are not for me, YMMV. The Astra SS is a sharp blade and pretty smooth, didn't have any issues with it shaving, none at at all, will definitely use again.

The Ap Shave Co Cobalt handle Muhle STF 25 mm, I really love the handle and I am really liking this synthetic knot as well. I did a face lather, loaded plenty of product, had no problem producing great lather. I got this splaying thing down fairly well pretty quickly. Being right handed on using the chin, jaw trick on the right side of my face no problems but on the left side it was always harder to splay, meaning it would want to spring back, I am right handed.

So when talking about this knot on another thread, a person suggested it could be that angle so I used my left hand on my left side of my face, first using my left hand, the splaying was easy, like on the right side of my face but I am not left handed. I then figured, do the jawline trick with my left hand, start it there, then instead of using my left hand to keep the splay and lather, with to my right hand. This worked! The knot was way easier to stay like on the right side of my face and yea that was that. Its been fun playing around with this synthetic getting this splaying thing down. The rest of it, like face painting, good backbone, soft tips, all true, its a good knot, one I have enjoyed so far.

The Meštar Dišpet soap is one of my favorites, always makes great lather for me, I have it dialed in, easy to use, great shaving experience and post shave feel, great scent, very enjoyable.

The Saponifico Varesino 70th anniversay aftershave, liked the scent (not huge on saying this scent has this or that, but if I enjoy something thats how I judge it  ), enjoyed using it post shave. It has more alcohol content in it than I thought but that is a good thing, I enjoy that with any aftershave.

I used Alum Block again, had very little feedback and no irritation to my skin so I was happy with it.

My 1st pass WTG, 2nd pass WTG/XTG with touch ups, 3rd pass ATG leaving me a very nice DFS+/BBS with no cuts, nicks, weepers or irritation or I should say very little to the point where I call it zero. Overall very terrific shave, very enjoyable, very happy with it.
