Nice 195x70 piece of pure, smooth, and very fine stone, a great razor hone that's easy to work with, not picky about the tomo nagura. Fine diamond slurry works well too.

Cheers, Steve

Kouzaki aoto, a harder, finer aoto a midgrit for razors, but a decent finisher for knives. I don't know if it would beat a nice softer kiita though. The darker areas are a little moisture left over from the initial 'run'. It's surprisingly hard and fast for it's grit.

I'm still checking it out. I'll dull a razor and see if it sets a bevel. My guess is that if it doesn't need much, it will work. This one is harder and finer than most aoto I gather, I don't have much experience with them.

Well I dulled a ZY on glass and set the bevel with the kouzaki. The bevel was near perfect other than the light glassing, but at the rate the slurry darkened, I'd say it's a 'go' for a natural bevel setter. Not likely to displace my Shapton Pro 2k, but time will tell.

Very nice Ohira Renge Suita, gives a good amount of a skin colored rosé slurry due a good anount of Renge..

....works real fast....really begin to like those suitas ;-)

Nice stone fatwade,

I have a grey suita that slurries pinkish from the renge, cool beans.

Cheers, Steve

Shinden Sunashi Hon Suita.
Intoxicating stone to hone on - great speed, Goldilocks hardness. Clean clean clean stone - like, super clean and uber-consistent.

Oh man! I have always wanted a Hon suita. Would you say they are generally finer than shiro suita? I've used quite a few different shiro but not Hon.

I made this Dai today out of bamboo. I know bamboo is less than ideal for a Dai but it's all I have at the moment. I have it recessed about 1/4 inch to hold the stone in place.

I think the bamboo is perfect. Looks great, and I bet it shrugs off the water. Nice job inletting.

Thanks Steve. It does look good, but since it's glued together I'm just not sure how long it will last. I suppose sealing it would help.

Pictured is my nakayama from max and the tomongura to the right. It's very large. Stunning results from this j nat sharp and smooth.

That's a giant Tomo Gary. Does the stone have any skin on the back or is it smooth?

A little furniture wax and toweling it off when you're done should do the trick.
