What's new

May 2024 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

I am still in. I've been mostly lurking and not posting as I've been having some heart stents and a little roto rootering done and, oh boy, more on the 30th. That should keep me out of trouble. A nice smooth shave this morning and I just received my beautiful new (legal) 2 band badger brush from Rudy V. I can't wait for tomorrows shave.

#26 GRUME May 2024 - Still in

Date: 05.13.24

Days growth: 6

Head and face shave

Razor: Gillette Fatboy

Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)

Brush: Simpson T3

Pre-shave: Hot shower using Johnson and Johnson on face and head with facial scrubber. Tabac bloom water

Lather: Tabac bowl lathered

Passes: 2. WTG ATG

Post Shave Routine and products:

1 - Hot rinse with microfiber towel X2

2 - Cold rinse

3 - Alum block

4 - Cold rinse with microfiber towel X1

5 - Aftershave: Tabac edt

6 - Balm: Nivea sensitive skin

Notes: Today was a great shave. My previous shave was terribly uncomfortable due to foot problems; those problems were not an issue today thank god. The Tabac bowl lathered better today due to the T3 and its awesome properties. Last shave I used the Simpson 57 best and though I was able to work up a decent lather it was nowhere near today’s lather. The razor performed well on setting 7 then setting 5. The Fatboy never disappoints.

Quality: 9.5 DFS+

Comfort: 10

Enjoyment: 10

Overall: 9.8

Evening shave - 5/13/24
Razor: KCG
Blade: Ladas Stainless Steel (1/5) (2)
Soap: BSS #1
Brush: Omega 81052 Banded Boar
Aftershave: Stetson Cooling Moisture

Last night's shave was one with a bit of irritation. I decided to bowl lather for some reason and I thought it looked like good lather. Maybe I am just trying to blame something else than myself, but the first two passes WTG, XTG was just like normal, but for some reason the ATG was a bit rough. I ended up with neck tenderness and a weeper and still this morning I can feel the tenderness. Still a very close and presentable shave.

In!

Excellent debut shave with a new (second hand) Timeless baseplate, which I recently traded in.
I'll have to re-polish this thing to remove it's use marks from the former owner... won’tbe a big deal on a SS quality piece of craftsmanship.

The 0.68 OC is likely a very nice addition to my Timeless .95 OC, which is almost to efficient to be used on a daily basis (with very sharp blades, that is).
I've the feeling the .68 OC baseplate will fit get the daily driver job done a bit easier.

Have a nice one, y'all!
Cheers!
