iPhone Camera Issue

I thought that the problem was with my new iPhone 15 Pro Max. In fact I could not find any information on the Internet about anybody else experiencing it. However, my wife recently upgraded her iPhone 15 (not the Pro) to iOS 17.0.3 and she started having the same problem. I tend to think it is a software, iOS 17 related problem.

The problem is that when I take a shot, sometimes the picture gets automatically resized by adding a partial black frame, on top and on the right side, as in this picture.

It does not happen all the times, however when it happens it keeps happening.

It seems to happen only when I take a shot indoor.

Since I could not find any info on the Internet, I was planning on going to an Apple store but then I thought I could ask here if anybody has the same problem.

I'm following along... We had intended to upgrade our iPhone 11 Pro Max phones this coming Black Friday to the 15 Pro Maxs, but our youngest son heard they were having some overheating issues.

Now you are having an additional problem. As you can see, we don't upgrade our phones very often... but we've never had any issues with our iPhones when they were new. In fact, other than needing new batteries at the moment, both of them are still working well. We might just buy the new batteries and wait until Apple gets this stuff sorted.

Let us know what fix you found. Thx.

Upgraded to iOS 17.1, the problem is still there.

It happens when the Photo Mode is 24MP (to be changed in Settings>Camera), and the picture ratio is 16:9. If I change one of the two the problem disappears.

Two days ago a friend of mine picked up a 15 Pro Max and it shows the same problem.

I spent some time by phone this morning with a specialist, and after some research he said that Apple is aware of the problem.

if you want a phone that overheats find a oneplus 7tpro mclaren. i had 3, one overheated to the point the battery swelled, the second bricked on an update and the third overheated. i went back to apple.

If it’s a 15 you should have some sort of warranty still. Chat with an apple support person. They will be able to fix it no problem. Faster than you’ll get an answer online I’m sure. I’ve never experienced this problem with any of the iPhones I’ve had so I’m guessing it’s a setting somewhere you can’t find.

I am not kidding: those software upgrades tend to do more harm than good......

I took one iPhone and never upgraded software......it was flawless for that year (vs all others that will have all sorts of annoying issues (battery......chan you hear me know).
