Hot sauce junkie

Sudden death on a spoon? Yikes!

I picked up up some Dr Assburn's fire roasted habanero. It's not bad!
I think it's more suited for BBQ type food than on like let's say pizza or hot dogs. It's got nice heat with a slight sweet flavor and you can taste the habanero. Definitely not high on the heat list but a solid low medium I'd say.

I like trader joes habanero sauce and jalapeño sauce.

Grandmother is from Mexico - I've tried everything from Pico Pica to Tapatio to Cholula to whatever else is sold in the grocery stores.

The Trader Joe's stuff is pretty darn good.

The thing is, hot sauce is like beer. You have to have different varieties around for the different moods you're in.

So much for the salad dressing. I went straight for the good stuff instead.

Although, I did use a little olive oil for lubrication.

Did the two sauces work well together?
I put some Hot *** Chili Deadly Passion in my ham sammie today.

They worked good together.
I like to put HS on my sandwiches too.
You need to buy some of that Bhuty Black Chocolate Hot Sauce. Put some brownies or on top of a stack of pancakes...or wherever chocolate goes.

I'm waiting until he has Bhuty Black Taniwha sauce avaliable in the larger bottles, only the 60ml made at the moment and intend to get some of the chocolate at the same time.
I will also get some Dried Bhut Jolokia Pods at the same time for my next Texas Red with a kick. :001_smile
The Bhuty Black Taniwha sauce should only be a week or so away.

His chili pods are going off. Check out Fire Dragon Chilli Face Book page for some Chili porn.

I'm also keen to try the sauce he is working on with a local Chef from Petone here in Wellington. Not sure when that will be ready.

Do you see those tomatoes in the picture above with the salad. Talk about some no-taste-at-all-tomatoes. Just bland, mushy and lifeless. Just terrible. So, I made some salsa with them at lunch. But, before a whizzed them up, I cut them in half and but them under the broil in the oven. They came out all charred and reduced down to mush. I threw them into the food processor and whammo!..pretty darn good salsa. Of course, it had help with the addition of other ingredients.

I can't find good tomatoes around here, and good tomatoes are the key to really good salsa. The farmers markets have them but they are the first to go when they open on Saturdays. The supermarkets have nothing.

I guess its time to start planning a garden.

That looks good on you.
Thanks. As to the tomatoes, I almost never eat them due to mushiness and no taste. I always order my burgers without them. A month or so ago I bought some heirloom tomatoes (forgot which) at an upscale grocery store. They tasted like tomatoes are supposed to. This GMO seed movement makes for crappy vegetables. Start stockpiling enough seeds now, before Monsanto buys enough politicians to make it illegal. Note- this is not a political statement, both sides are for sale to the highest bidder.

I was born in Steubenville, OH- 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. Consequently, I love Heinz ketchup. I have been mulling over a ketchup replacement. So far I have decided on tomatoes, serranos, garlic, honey, and probably onion. I want some sweet and tasty, with a little less heat than my habenaro sauce. I think I will work on it this weekend. I will post my results and tentative recipe then, if people are interested (am sure some will be).

on edit: while researching peppers, I found a funny picture on wikipedia

I like your thinking on a homemade ketchup or ketsup. Heinz I like, but I will not buy any of their products. Most Ketchups have high fructose corn syrup. We can do better.

Yes, we can. I don't want any artificial thickeners or emulsifiers in the stuff I make. This begs a question- with home made sauce, is it normal for the liquid (vinegar, lime juice) to separate when sitting? I am pretty sure it is, I just stir it up when ready to use.

Sitting? I'm sure what ever you make(and I know it will be spicy) will not sit long enough to separate. Lol.

Just give it it a good shake. Sha, sha, sha, sha, she was shakin'.

Can an you imagine fresh spicy ketchup on some French fries right now?

Yep, thick cut fries with the peel still on. I cannot wait until this weekend. I know that I might be stretching the definition of hot sauce with my plan, but there will be plenty of Serrano in it- it will be a condiment with a kick.

Melindas, Melindas, Melindas.

Best hot sauce on the market, in my opinion. Flavorful. Not just heat. I put it on almost everything.
