Gillette old type "adjustable" - 1907 marketing

not to derail the thread at all, but did anyone notice it said "Combination sets available from $6.50 to $50.00" ... 50 BUCKS in 1907 had to be a huge chunk of change!
I wonder what the difference in the sets would be?
(50 buck set in 1907 solid gold with diamond inlay in the handle???:biggrin:)

Good question! In 1907, $6.50 would be $144.17 with the 2007 dollar and $50.00 would be $1108.98 with the 2007 dollar. So Gillette had a state of the art product that cost a pretty penny - kind of like an iphone! So what was the difference between the $6.50 set and the $50.00 set? Though I can't find an example to demonstrate this with the 'old type' razor sets, I can show you what the different price point got you with the New Improved razors. Below is an ad from 1923 for the New Improved razor: $5 for something basic and $75 for something fancy.
