Freddies brush thread

I've been away from B&B for some time. I mainly hang out on IG, DFS, but decided to be a frequent flyer again. I've gotten in to brush restoration on the side for a little fun and a way to unwind after work or pass a rainy day. Figured I'd share some of my work. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Excellent restorations Freddie! And welcome back! I think I have seen some of your work on the bay. Or at least I think I have. But I could be completely wrong of course! Either way - great work! Makes me want to seek out these brushes too!

Cheers,

Guido

Thanks Guido. Main seller for restored on the bay is Timothy Abernathy. Nice guy. I don't sell on there due to all the fees. You have to jack your prices up just to try and break even. Ones I do sell are normally in BSTs to keep prices reasonable.

Ah I see. And selling through BST also ensures you are selling to real aficionados. Sort of an added bonus. I am working on 4 brushes with my dad at the moment. Well, he does most of the work! Wooden handles he turned on his lathe and me selecting the knots.

I will keep an eye on it BST a little more often!

Cheers,

Guido

Have had some free time in between restorations to work on a side project. I've had several wooden handles that were in great shape but the ferrules were beyond saving. Had an idea in my head and went with it.

I sourced the copper and brass, cut to same size as original ferrules, then gave them a hammered finish. Ferrules were then polished to a nice shine. I left them uncoated so they will patina over time should anyone choose to go that route.

The golden maple and copper handle holds a 24mm Silvertip SHD knot. The Walnut and brass has its knot in route and will be a nice 23mm fan. I do have one more in the works that will hold a 26 to 28mm knot once completed.

I can only imagine how nice those brushes in the videos feel to hold. Although you‘re only holding it a short while for lathering, that minute or two would be very nice. I’ve got several brushes with cheap handles, they do the job, but I really appreciate the few that are unique. Keep sharing!

Thank you. I have plenty of cheap brushes that do just as good a job as a high end one. As long as you enjoy your shaves is all that matters. If you ever get to looking for something or have questions regarding a resto give me a shout and I'll be happy to help.
