Color 8 loafers today - I read somewhere that loafers are passe nowadays but I don't care - they are comfortable classics IMO.

loafers are coming back here in Holland in the luxery manfashion stores i think that you have make a great investment in these shoes.
im in my 20s and love loafers and i just orderd my furst pair in blue suede hand crafted dutch brand greve loafers.

I have never heard of Alden Shoes and after googling them I know why. $500 for a pair of shoes.

Do they fell better or last longer than a $130 pair of Ecco's?

Also I'm not sure I would want to have to worry about snow and salt ruining them.

The only time I wear dress shoes is at work.

You pretty much get what you pay for in footwear. $130 Ecco's will work, I've had some but last what, maybe two years ? $400 will get you a pair of shoes or boots that will last a lifetime.

I did see that Alden would refurb their.shoes for $169 and they were 500-600 on their website in the SFO store. Yet they were even more on other websites.

What brands are buying for $400 that last a lifetime. I only need them to last the next 12-13 years unless my sons feet don't get any bigger than mine.

Look at some of my replies in this thread, those boots I've pictured will last me a lifetime, I work in an office. And they actually do come with a lifetime warranty. Now they are $400ish...depending what leather you chose. I know you are looking for more of a dress shoe though. As far as dress shoes, I would think Aldens, Allen Edmonds, Johnston and Murphy would last the average person a lifetime (resoles are standard wear items that need to be replaced) with the proper care. I thought you would be able to get any of these brands closer to $400 though. It's been a while since I've looked at dress shoes though.

Would any of these work for you ? A little less expensive and while last.

Been admiring this thread for awhile, finally got my shoes polished up and decided to join in the fun. Today I'm wearing some apprx 7 year old Johnston & Murphy's, just got re-soled and looking rejuvenated. Exceptionally comfortable and timeless looking...

dappered boots realy Nice for the price of those boots i can buy the shoes that im eyeballing.
i can see they are of good quility the goodyear stich is telling that they are wel made.
and the sool is made of leather and stich on rubber those are very expensive handcraft work.
i like your taste.

Those are real beauties.

Thanks guys. Viberg has been around a while. I love their boots but they are just a bit out of my price range.

Took this from their website :

"Our HistoryViberg Boot has been hand crafting some of the world's highest quality work boots for over 80 years. Founded in 1931 by Ed Viberg, the Canadian company is now in its 3rd generation and is still 100% family owned and operated. Today Ed's son Glen Viberg is still on the factory floor, personally working on every single pair of boots that leaves our doors.
Our business began with the goal of crafting the best boot possible and we are proud to have maintained this uncompromising level of quality. We use traditional manufacturing methods and only the best materials sourced from around the world: brass tacks from England, heavyweight insoles from Spain, Vibram outsoles, Swiss hobnails and the finest upper leathers from renowned tanneries in the USA and Italy. There are over 200 steps that go into producing a pair of Viberg boots and all of them are performed in our own facility by skilled craftspeople.
In the last five years Viberg has expanded into a lifestyle market and is carried in some of the most prestigious shops across the globe. We have successfully collaborated with Nigel Cabourn, Inventory Magazine, The Flat Head and more. We continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what can be done by combining modern materials and methods with our own heritage of quality. "
