What's new

Dislike Amazon more then ever as of today🔥

I agree about the problems with Amazon. I was looking for a shaving brush and the package description said it was 1 inch x 1 inch x 1 inch. There are a lot of description errors and the reviews often of completely incorrect even if you ask a specific question.

But as mentioned here, CHECK the fine print to see if the item is returnable/refundable and sold/ships from Amazon. Saves a lot of problems.
Boy that would be a tough one to use at a real 1Ă—1Ă—1inch that's funny.
Makes me think of the video of a super huge shaving brush someone made.
I think it was Michael Freeman, probably not spelled correctly, but he did a shave with it, so funny. Like 142mm brush or the like.

There’s a certain way to use Amazon for me. If I stick to my rules, it’s a pleasant experience. If I roll the dice by breaking my rules, I can only blame myself if I am disappointed in the transaction.

It’s well known that Amazon co-mingles the “same” item into a single bin that is being sold by multiple vendors. For example, say you want to buy a 100-pack of Astra SP blades and you found that 10 vendors sell them on Amazon. If the items say “shipped from Amazon,” on all 10 listings, this means that the 10 vendors store their products in an Amazon warehouse, but they’re all put in the same bin. So, say you click to buy it from “Joe’s Super Razor Fun Good Times” because it’s $1 cheaper than all the others, you have no idea which stock you are actually getting. The only guarantee you have is the price. Even if Joe’s has legit product, but “Mike’s Discount But We Promise Not Sketchy” has some counterfeits, you may actually get counterfeits from Mike’s stock because they were in the same bin.

I only buy “shipped from Amazon” products if I don’t care about stock origin, date codes, versions, etc. If I don’t care if I get made in Russia Astras vs made in India Astras vs counterfeits, I’ll buy from Amazon and have them shipped from Amazon.

If I need absolute certainty of receiving a certain version of an item, I’ll probably go to another store altogether, but I will still buy from Amazon if it’s shipped by the actual vendor. For example, if Joe is advertising made in Russia Astra SP, and the listing says “Shipped by Joe,” I’ll buy from Joe that way.

Everything else is a gamble. YMMV.

Be wary when ordering "non refundable food items," is all I can say.

To be fair, it's 90% clear sailing, but there are more BS problems lately.

I've ordered a few difficult to find local items (dry pasta shapes, specialty can of beans) without issue.

Things like cookies, fancy licorice, chocolates etc are usually fine but I have had the odd issue. Either damaged/brown product, open Amazon shipping box or placed in my garden by the driver. A quick use of the Chat function explaining the problem and they refunded the entire purchase.

If you try and use the "return" function it goes into an endless loop or starting the refund and then tells you "too bad". You have to go through the customer service function and get to chat, select "other issue" or something similar and get a real person.

I have been a "Prime" member for years. Not only for the free shipping reduced limit but did for the Prime video too. So that may affect getting better service, discounts on late shipments and free items when they do screw up.

I needed a new backpack. Had it narrowed down to three. Ordered them all from amazon, chose the one I liked, and then returned them all for an easy refund.

I then bought direct from the manufacturer, for 25% off.

The system will try to game you, so you might as well game the system.

So my wife wanted new door hardware. Kwickset, and Amazon was cheapest.

Box arrives, item is right, today I go to do install, no directions.

Called Kwickset, and after many questions, tech person says where did you buy. AMAZON, they reply you did not get new product.

We package in clear plastic, andalway give paper installation instructions.

Thing that make me mad was lockset were sold as new, not refurburushed. On inspection I found scratches.

Another Reason for me not to do Amazon, sadly wife like the company.🤮🤯
I like to save money too, but somethings I just pay a little more and go to a real hardware store.

My buddy has a side business do Cigar accessories, he sells on Amazon.

He is also make less per item then selling in his own website.

Prime Member pay no shipping, seller pays, Amazon get Prime membership money.

There seem to be a number of variations within Amazon. I agree that purchases "shipped by Amazon" and free returns is the way to insure you get what you want. They even have the same items at different prices - usually determined by arrival time.

I am not a member of Prime, I can generally amass an order of an mount to get free shipping. But today, I noticed something weird. Attached are the totals for two orders. With free shipping they are the same amount. But shipping on one it is $6.99, but free shipping is $7.39 and -$7.39. Why would the shipping cost increase if it is to be discounted? I have noticed this same situation over a number of orders.

Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

just had a food item come in shipped from but sold by 3rd part on Prime said non-returnable (the product was bad)
got a refunded price but they tend to take care of prime members and I do not abuse this. no idea if some abuse them they might say NO after a while

they are still the evil Death star
but sadly we live in that same universe and if it blows up much of what and how we get stuff these days is blown up as no way to get much of the stuff I use off them any other convenient way or not at all
for sure a monopoly I reckon :)
also how they force vendors to set a price they want or their pricing goes away they are like being nice to your jailer so he does not throw your food on the ground where the dog goes and then serve it to you :)

yeah odd time for sure but also something we all use and when I can I avoid them but it fills its spot and if I was NOT to get certain things from them I could get other brands elsewhere but might be paying more or get something not quite like it and again in many ways I prefer to buy in person but a USB cable that is needed I can often get it the same day or next without going to a store that won't have that specific cable type

I remember the Maui days when you would order something (like 30 years ago) without all the internet stores you would buy what they have or wait 2-3 months for it to get to you unless you paid insane air prices :) but I think those were better times :) hahahahahah

"Can't Raise an Eyebrow"
Paying with Amex gives you another layer of protection and easier refunds if Amazon gives you trouble. We are addicted to Amazon and have used Prime forever. The ratings are often a joke. I love the ones that give something 5 stars but the rater says they haven't used it yet! I tend to look at the 3 star ratings if I'm skeptical. If there are a lot of 3 star ratings, those are likely legit issues. The one star ratings are usually idiots, but not always.

I’m a bit of an Amazon whore. 48 orders placed this year. 90 last year. 157 in 2022. 166 in 2021. 183 In 2020. You get the point. I do 90% of my business on Amazon.

I’ve had less headaches from Amazon than I have going to physical stores. If you stick to “shipped from and sold by Amazon“ you are 99% fine. I’ve had decent luck with everything else though that is just “shipped from Amazon”. The return policy is quite easy to deal with. And out of all these orders and years I’ve only had to return maybe 4 or 5 things. I’ve never gotten anything that wasn’t as described or used to whatever. The stuff I’ve returned just didn’t work for my needs or was the wrong item (my mistake)

Frankly…I wouldn’t care if Amazon screwed me on something. I’d still order from there cause I hate going to Walmart or Kroger or any other store nearby.

Because your item is now under $35 maybe?

Sometimes I wish I could reply to some of those reviews. I remember reading some one star reviews of BaconUp (bacon grease) and they were complaining about it tasting like maple syrup. I remember thinking have they never heard of maple smoked bacon

The mistakes are irritating, but returns for mistakes have been pretty good.
I recently (last week) ordered a handlebar cup holder and paid for expedited shipping. It arrived without half the parts.
I initiated a return and re-order, but found the replacement wouldn't ship for an extended period. I have a trip planned and that wouldn't work.
I called their call center, and spoke to a fellow in India who said he couldn't expedite shipping, but...
He could cancel my return, refund me as a gift card rather than my credit card so I would have the funds available in 2 hours.
I could then order the item online and get it in 2 days, and I wouldn't have to box up the useless one I received and could just toss it, which I did.
