Dior Homme Sport and Amouage Lyric for men review

First of all I must say a very big thank you to joe2k1 who very generously PIF'd a bottle of DHS and sample of AL to me a few weeks ago. I will preface this review by saying that I am not a big frag specialist in the aspect of picking out the nuances of scents. I do know what I like and do not like though.

Dior Homme Sport edt: A very nice summer type scent that just flirts with being cloyingly sweet. It starts off heavy with citrus and ginger but the citrus tames down with time. The ginger tends to remain with some woody notes entering along with something powdery. Overall a very nice scent. It has good staying power for me, lasting all day. The initial sillage is quite heavy, at least to my nose, but then mellows and ends up at near skin contact strength. I tend to prefer oriental, spicy, and/or oud type scents. I do enjoy mixing it up though.

Amouage Lyric edp: A unique scent for me, something quite far outside my comfort zone actually, but one I actually enjoy. It's very rose heavy but not old lady perfume rose, more like true rose smell. It's mixed with something that reminds me of balsamic salad dressing and a patchouli type scent. More of an evening or date night type scent for me. Staying power is excellent as would be expected from an edp. Sillage is HEAVY initially but then tones down but still remains inside my personal space distance for a long time. This is not what I would think of as a traditional mens scent but it does work and work well.

SWMBO likes both as well which is always a bonus!

Again thank you joe2k1 for your generosity, it was my first PIF ever won and an excellent one at that.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Have you tried other rose fragrances? How would their compare?

I don't know the OP's answer to this question, but I have. In addition to having Amouage Lyric I also have Tom Ford's Oud Fleur. I actually prefer the Oud Fleur for a pure rose scent to the Lyric. The OP alludes to the reason why when he mentions that the Lyric is "something quite far outside my comfort zone". It is for me as well, and although I do like it and it is growing on me it always starts out just a bit too floral for me.

TF captures that same pure rose scent, but in a more sophisticated and less cloying way. Hope this helps in your decision making process if you are thinking about tracking down just the right rose scent for you.
