I've never used the 34C but understand your pain with the rot issue my R41 started to pit on the base plate and I purchased the R41 SS version and I love it, good luck with your search I've heard great things about the Karves

I've had the slant bar version of the HD for over 10 years and it has not rotted yet. It's the gold-plated model, IDK maybe that's a more resilient finish?
