My primary significant retail purchases (EU to US). Have been ski bindings, valued anywhere from $250 to o $500. I've never been charged import duty.

PayPal has however hit me with a currency conversation fee.

I’m pretty sure a lot of financial institutions charge conversion fees not just PayPal
