Your “grail” DE razor?

Finding your grail razor doesn't have to mean you don't want to buy other razors or even kills your RAD. I'd like to think of my grail and the 'Gold Standard' razor. The razor all other razors, before and after, are measure against to objectively determine if they should remain in my den. My current GS razor is the TiBird. It's left and right hand men are the Blutt 1.2 and the Yates EH.

My exploding razor knows secrets
I was very hesitant, after all there were so many great options on the list, they were beautiful, funny and gave great shaves.

But in the end I chose Olaf Rasmussen Prep as the answer to the question. Because it made me understand that everything is actually very simple, just as pure as its appearance.

As a pre-surgery preparation tool, the nurses next to you shave people with various skin conditions; they cannot know how your skin feels, and they have to complete the work at the highest efficiency, and they must try their best to reduce unnecessary damage and make it easy to clean. And withstand the rigors of sterilization...Contains what we are looking for in a razor.

And "Grail", I understand it to mean including "hard to obtain", O.R. PREP also fits this.

I don’t have a grail razor per se.

I do want to find a lot more razors. Anything that was mass produced can usually be found in the Midwest for cheaper than most other places. I have a couple truisms for collecting anything mass produced.

1. Hold out for cleanest copies of whatever it is you are collecting. The earlier in any collection that you get very picky… the better the collection. Exceptions should be for the uncommon pieces. For an obvious example… vintage travel Techs and Flare Tip SuperSpeeds… they just may be the most common vintage razors to be found around here. There is almost no reason to settle for these in poor shape.

2. The vast vast majority of your budget for any collection should be for the uncommon pieces. If you are a magpie, and continually looking, there is no reason to spend very much on the common pieces.

So, I would say that my grail razors are minty uncommon razors. I may have some for the acquisition threads later.

As far as wet shaving goes, I am only a year in. So, I am still learning about what to even look for. I break my own rules all the time.

I guess I would have to say my Grails are Aristocrats, ABC sets, Single Rings, Sheratons, Double Rings… all the rarer/older razors that I have not run into in good shape.

Cool and slimy
Let me tell you how my search for the grail worked. Just like in Indiana Jones. I probably stood before it, probably already have it in my den. But I went on to the next razor, because... "... oooh! SHINY! MUST BUY!"

I have to think quite a while about my favorite books. And then mention some pulp fiction most people don't know. I have similar problems when naming my BEST razor. One of my top razors is the Timeless Slim .5 OC. So many people can't stand it.

If we burn them all at the stake, maybe the rest of the world will finally recognize this razor as the one true grail razor.

Open Comb Fatboy
I'm familiar with the Fatboy. I've never seen one of these. If this a creative machination of yours, then count me in. It would be a very cool new toy to play with.

That said, thus far I think I've found my HG razor in the form of a vintage NLC. Look forward to using when I shave and very grateful to have it.

Yesterday, I received my first Fatip, the Testina Gentile model.

I've often said that this model of razor, or that other one, is my definitive razor.

I won't say it again, because I've found my grail.

The Fatip will be my last and only razor, it's perfect for my sensitive skin.

I landed my grail razor in 2010, iKon Deluxe OC #07 from Greg's initial numbered batch of 99. I've acquired many very nice razors since then, but non are the equal of the iKon for sheer shaving sweetness. Paired with a Wolfman WRH7 handle.
