Wolfman WR4

Thanks for the inspiration @Cino 🙌

Hi all
Have got my turn come up and am about to put an order for a WR4
I have a Paradigm Ti SE which i absolutley love, and had a General V2 (but the wife threw that in the trash recently without knowing ….. don’t ask !) I asked Kyle if they have a secret stash of gen V2 anywhere but he said u fortunately not

Both are great razors.

What do I get for the WR4?

I only shave my head and neck.
The efficiency and comfort for General v2 and Paradigm are fine for me with a feather super blade

What’s the closest blade gap I should go for that will be like the above two razors? 0.55, 0.7, 0.8?

And I was going to go with Ti as I love the Paradigm Ti but some on this thread are saying it is toooo light. Was looking at copper, but I don’t want a patina and want something that will hold up for years in rotation

Any thoughts would be appreciated as I wish to place the order. I am defo getting a WR4 - not sure of the handle choice, and I was thinking of getting an additional Vector ti - but it seems as though the reviews mention a bit too much blade feel (which I am not too fond of) - I have a Blackbird DE which is great, but there is blade feel there (different razor, I know)

Thanks in advance

Had the General v2 on loan for a while and use the X1. I have ordered the .55 with both baseplates. This gap was choosen after testing the prototype .77, titanium .60 OC, .70 and bronze .86 -- yes, the titanium makes the head too light. Go for the stainless if you don't like or want patina. I like the idea of copper but need to be 110% sure of the gap first. The .55 will be in stainless.

For handles I prefer WRH3 and WRH1 in that order.

Sorry to hear about the misadventures of your General.

I do own the Vector still but don't use much -- most likely will sell and replace with the WR4 and maybe AD La Faulx later on.

I have, and love the Paradigm. I purchased the 0.7 SB in bronze with a solid handle. To me, it's significantly more efficient than the Paradigm, and it can be just as smooth depending on how it's used. It has a very light and thin cap which allows a shallow shave angle. When used at a shallow angle, it's very smooth. As you go steeper the blade becomes more noticeable. I love it, but if you want something closer to the Paradigm, I'd go with a smaller gap. I use Schick Prolines in both razors.

Ok
Back and forth with James - I need to make a decision

Head and neck shaver
Not daily shaver

Getting two razors

Does anyone know what blade gap the following are:?
Paradigm Ti Se
General V2

1st razor
Titanium basic polish
WR4-SB (0.7 or 0.6 blade gap)
WRH7 handle 98mm

2nd Razor
Stainless steel - mirror polish
WR4-OC (0.6 or 0.5 blade gap)
Darwin Handle 98mm

Any thoughts as I don’t want to keep overthinking it and I really want to order before I annoy James and Tara

Love the paradigm and general V2, happy with their efficiency which is why I am asking if anyone knows their blade gaps - can’t find this on any forum

Please help

I can't speak to paradigm or general, but if it were me I'd get both heads as different as possible. Larger gap open comb and smaller gap safety bar. Big gap OC for when you've got longer time between shaves, smaller gap for more frequent shaves. If you don't like one of them after you get it, the BST will.move it quickly in any of the gaps you're considering.

I think the 0.7 is pretty common for daily users on this forum. I'm planning on getting a larger gap and taming it with guarded blades if needed. Still got some time to wait until it's my turn though.

If you have the General and Paradigm can’t you measure the gaps?

I’ve ordered the same gap for both SB and OC. I wouldn’t pick a larger gap just because you aren’t shaving daily. This razor is incredibly light in titanium. Unless that is something you really want, I would consider bronze at the very least for weight. Have used the WR4 with a WRH3-7 98mm and it was a good weight. Solid handle.

No experience with the Paradigm but gather it’s fairly mild? The General is more like a .70 gap on the WR4.

Edit - not the v2 but this thread has lots of measurements for the original General. The brass and v2 felt pretty similar when I tried them.

Personally I would get two baseplates if uncertain with gaps not two razors.

Not received my razor yet.

I have used both the Paradigm Ti SE and the Wolfman WR4 bronze with a hollow handle (Total razor weight: 70 g) and a 0.70 blade gap. The WR4 with a 0.70 blade gap was much more efficient than the Paradigm SE.

I’m currently on the waitlist for the WR4 with a 0.50 blade gap, which is expected to be similar to the Paradigm Ti SE.

The WR4 head is very light and it benefits from a little extra weight. Based on the many reviews here, I figured that neither the Darwin handle nor Ti would be optimal just on the basis of weight. I went with bronze and a WRH2 handle. That works well. I imagine that copper or stainless would work just as well.

I have the 0.7 gap, and also have the Paradigm. That configuration is more efficient than the Paradigm but still suitable for daily shaves. Right now, I'm considering ordering a 0.9 gap.

I wouldn't describe the .90 as a daily shaver but it's your face! There is a significant jump in blade exposure:

.70 = +0.09
.90 = +0.21

I've used the .86 in bronze and while it's technically smooth with the right blade there's too much blade feel IMO. And it's way too easy to get nicks, no matter what handle I tried (light Darwin to heavy WRH3-7 XL).

They just raised the prices... so that explains why I had to wait for my invoice.

That is a big jump, both in exposure and price. Maybe I'll stick with what I have.

I’m still waiting for Tara’s email…..

Tara’s just back from her holidays today, hopefully I’ll get her email this week.

I should be game to try the Bronze WR4, now it’s only the gap. Toss up between .70 or the prototype .77. My favorite daily razor is the Vector Titanium. Which gap guys?

I’m interested in the response on this one! I emailed James about the titanium WR4 and which gap based on I don’t grow facial hair that fast and could probably get away with shaving once a week. He suggested 0.30 gap because of that. However I love shaving with the titanium vector with a Kai mild blade. That makes me wonder if I should go more for a 0.50 or maybe 0.60 gap if I decide to purchase one since the vector doesn’t give me any issues

.70 it is then. Tara has emailed. James mentioned he is using an Aluminium WR4 and that a light headed razor shouldn’t affect its efficiency. I’m trying the Titanium .70. Should I find that too light I’ll put in Google Forms for a bronze and wait a further 3 to 4 months
